Pinaka 120km guided version under project LRGR is ongoing. As we have already seen , there are 2 versions 120km and 300km planned. Not entirely sure but both versions could be 300mm since the project was hinted at such. We have to see.
Separately, there are warhead making process ongoing by ARDE warhead group which also mention Pinaka warhead, but the size of the warheads are bigger than Pinaka can carry tbh. So that particular one may be for Pralay instead. Either that or Pinakas going to be very heavy.

So with certain LORA order it is also likely/almost certainly some other Israeli stuff will soon follow as make in India route by BEL, stuff that the tri services use.
Q = QRSAM
Laura = LORA
MFS start = MF STAR

What is the need of ordering it when we have our own system.
Which system? If you are thinking about Pralay then no its not comparable in capabilities and price.

Pralay weighs 5 tons while LORA weighs 1.6 tons. A normal truck can carry four of them. LORA will be significantly cheaper than Pralay as it is derived from a rocket system.

The only advantage I see for Pralay is that it is harder to intercept and has the capability to carry a bigger warhead, sacrificing range.

For rocket forces, we need numbers. It is not possible with Pralay or BrahMos due to their cost. LORA fits the bill for nations that do not want to purchase the American ATACMS.

No armed force would rely on only 1 source for weaponry. The versatile your inventory is, the better. In our case, it is a hard practical fact.

This LORA order is projected in next 2 years guidance by BEL, which means there is very good lead time about this, which in turn means the user group wanted such a system for some time, probably have got a small stock in inventory as well. The factory which will manufacture this, and other ammo by BEL, is yet to finish work and still several months away. So take another 1 year, then the first batch of order spanning for 3-4 years & qualification. So By 2030s we will get locally produced LORA.
so why buy LORA when pinaka 300km is in development ?
Similar reason, diversifying the inventory. All these are electronics gadgets run by software after all, and each offer own unique features. One size fits all philosophy rarely work for such high end gadgets both from volume & use case perspective.

It does not make any sense why to make zoo out of your inventory. By the same logic we must start importing every foreign system. Main problem is what is the need of importing lora when we have got our system pralay which is far more capable.

Most of our defense procurements from Israel are pure dalali.

Let's dismantle our defense industry and start importing every Israeli maal that's what you want to say by same logic we must also import Israeli generals since indian generals are not comparable.

Sab corrupt hai saale.

You are mistaking one point by generalising every case via a one size fits all kind of argument. Russia offer a a huge bunch of options even in exports, so does Israel. Why each and every item is not bought blindfolded ? because not everything suits with Indian doctrine of war fighting and purpose, let alone proving across various theater of wars. This is such a case. This item offers a certain force multiplier that is not exactly available to the forces in required number, which is why this is being proposed as a domestic license production option.

As for the 2nd part, license production was prioritised by successive governments all through for decade after decades since the 60s. Even now Govt policy is very, extremely sensitive cases with regard to weapons and warfighting systems. Before asking of dismantling this or that, first answer in proper terms why Defence business is considered a high entry barrier business for the pvt sector.

By assembling this it wont "dismantle" anything. There is no alternative that this defense industry offers. By using the same argument everywhere, you are diminishing it. Try to be rational.

If we are flush with money , I understand that we can afford to buy these. It is true that one product will not fulfill all the requirements or have all the features there will be gaps but here in this case it does not look like that gap is so huge that army has literally no option.

Looks like we are throwing too much money around at the cost to our finances & damage to local industry.
