Indian Missiles and Munitions Discussion

I will also ask is - What is Jaguar MAX?

The result of someone eating a Protein Bar called Max Protein.

Belief that the airframes, perhaps, will become more durable and stronger after that

Is it the same EM-bomb based on SAAW/Spice-250 PKS keep speculating about?

Don't know what it is...but a requirement for a subsonic, semi-stealthy ALCM (an analogue to KEPD-350 or SCALP) has always existed.

The SCALP is an expensive weapon. From the looks of it, this ARM-X1 could do more or less the same role, but in a much cheaper solution which can also equip Russian-origin aircraft as well (as no doubt there will be reservations for equipping SCALP on Sukhois).

I will also ask is - What is Jaguar MAX?

The most advanced version of Jaguar, ever.

As of now I believe the MAX is a HAL pet project...don't know for who this will be marketed toward. Stuff like panoramic wide-angle MFDs was not required by IAF even in DARIN-3, and except us, there are no current foreign operators of the Jaguar either (even Oman retired their Jags).

Considering all the rest are accurate models of either in-service (like CBU-105, Harpoon) or planned inductions (rest of them)...have to ask, is this ARM-X1 (listed as "Smart Cruise Missile"), a new ALCM under development?

We are just wasting time, money and resources on this aircraft. Surprised HAL is offering a new upgrade for Jaguars when their own Darin-III upgrade is running years behind schedule. This is because Jaguar is the only aircraft HAL has ToT and have the freedom to do anything since OEM support doesnt exist anymore, but we need to stop investing more into dead metal just for the sake of keeping HAL occupied or maintain SQ numbers. I understand upgrades are required to keep aircraft current, but thats for countries that manages to get their upgrades done on time. Currently, IAF comes up with requirements for an upgrade and by the time HAL is done testing and upgrading, the upgrade is already obsolete. Capability wise, 6 SQ of Jaguars can easily be replaced by 2-3 SQ Rafales but we are however in the numbers game which forces us to maintain flying coffins that keep dropping from the sky. Godspeed to our pilots.

Good Day!

Best part is that even the enemy does not know if he is alive or dead or hit by it or not.

Look for whats up with AMCA. Last I heard there were too many rumors : Mk2 is AMCA / AMCA design changed / Engine will be from USA etc etc.

Some misinformed individuals have been spreading misinformation is all...

Tejas Mk2 is now called Medium Weight Fighter (MWF), this was known for quite a while but now its set in stone.

AMCA remains AMCA, a completely different 5th generation concept with internal weapons and twin engine configuration. Yes, they've made it official that AMCA will fly with GE F414 engines (same one that powers Tejas Mk2), owing to the fact Kaveri won't be ready.

They plan to keep flying with F414 for at least a decade following first flight. Logic dictates, all production aircraft be also equipped with the same engine as the prototypes, else more time will have to be spent on re-certifying with a new engine.

Whether or not and how soon Kaveri can replace it will depend on how well the JV with Safran goes probably.
