Indian Navy LHD/LPD Amphibious Ships : Updates & Discussions

If RNEL is taken over by an Indian company, then both will be able to compete again.

As for DPSUs, since CSL was nominated, others won't get a chance.
RNEL has to be taken over in the tender timelines.

Nominated when ? This is a fresh RFI.

CSL's nomination seems to be automatic. And it happens before a tender anyway.

Only the RFI is out, it's going to take a long time for the RFP. Anyway it looks like 2 private companies are needed if we are to choose between France and Spain.

I don't understand. Where did you get this notion of CSL nomination ? Did I miss something.

It would be easier to imagine that CSL never lost its nomination in the first place. CSL was nominated for this program more than a decade ago.

Such a massive difference in costs. I'm glad that the people at Hazel Mercantile actually understand the value of the shipyard, unlike the others.

Anyway, it's a good time to make the investment, the IN needs 50+ new ships over the decade. And a lot of big projects will be ending in a few years, freeing up most of their budget too. A decade earlier, the Scorpene, Vikrant, P-15B, P-28 and P-17A had eaten up a lot of the budget.

When did CSL get nominated last time ?

As I remember, that tender was reserved for private sector shipbuilders. Thus L&T and RNEL.

Yeah, my bad, it's HSL.

CSL was imprinted in my mind because of how much they were in the news over the last 2 years.

How did you missed this. They were definitely not part of this tender.

You misunderstood what's being said. The tender competition was to be between the two private shipyards, and HSL would only match the terms for their share of 2 LHDs. So L&T and RNEL had chosen their foreign partners, and with one being kicked out, it turned into a single-vendor situation. And due to the tender being within the ambits of the old DPP, where single-vendor situations are not allowed, it resulted in the death of the tender. But it doesn't change HSL's situation in terms of workshare.

PSUs are never good with "websites" 😁

It's Naval Group's website.

Again, that was amended around 2016-17. They even released fresh RFP.
“The need for fresh commercial bids became necessary as the earlier RfP proposed that the LPDs will be divided between private shipyards selected through a competitive process and on nomination basis to Hindustan Shipyard (HSL),”
Due to several reasons including the current order book of HSL, the decision has been taken to give all four LPDs to the private sector shipyards. According to Vice Admiral DM Deshpande, Controller of Warship Production and Acquisition, “If all goes well, a contract for procurement of Landing Platform Docks will be finalised by the end of this year.”

Yeah, I recall now. I guess I forgot about this.

It's weird then that some analysts were talking about giving 2 ships to HSL then, after the tender failed.
