Indian Political Discussion

Congress is so screwed up, they can't find one suitable leader and now they are back to square one. Sonia Gandhi systematically did not allow any state level leader to grow and today congress party is paying the price. I won't be surprised if congress splits further in Rajasthan, Gujarat and MP and regional parties are created by leaders like Pilot and Sindhia.

Tough times to be "secular ". The Almighty seems to be testing us.

Unsurprising. Very difficult to find leaders capable of matching caliber of rg. We will keep looking until we find a gem worthy of the job. It will eventually happen.

Perhaps, you should volunteer. I'm sure the ppl in India would prefer RaGa then. That'd be your contribution to the Congress and consequently India.

Being a hardcore BJP supporter since last 20+ years, I should be extremely happy with current political scenario.
- BJP has absolute majority in Loksabha and will get majority in Rajyasabha by 2020.
- Even without majority in Rajyasbha, they could pass multiple controversial bills in latest session.
- Regional parties like SP, BSP, AAP and TMC are pissing in their pants while thinking about their prospects in next assembly election.
- Congress is headless (till few hrs back) in true form and can't even find a president !! Virtually there is no national level opposition party.

This is the best situation I can ever dream for BJP. However, after the initially euphoria is over, I am really concerned about the political future of India. Please don't get me wrong. Modi is doing a fantastic job and I wish he keep doing it for next 10-15 years. But god forbid if the next gen BJP leaders or Modi himself turns arrogant, then what option India has ?? India must have a second national level opposition party who can challenge BJP in case they screw up. The coterie of regional parties or the third front is neither practical nor preferred option. Sonia Gandhi has literally killed the party and Congress is loosing it's ground in one state after another. Even during Indira or Rajiv Gandhi, there used to be a bunch of strong second tier leaders who could lead the party. Today there are none. This is an alarming situation and unfortunately there is no easy solution.

When is congress going to realize that remote control leadership is well past its sell by date. At least for the sake of that most basic of human instinct, self preservation, congress needs to cut off its umbilical cord from the Nehru - Gandhi parivar.

Congress can take the cue from its chief betenoir. BJP always nurtured leaders at the state level and allowed them grow in political stature and create their own space. Advani - Vajpayee duo may not have liked Modi, but they did not discourage him political space. Now modi is nurturing Shah for leadership. Congress has constantly sidelined anyone who threatened the parivar. This is what they did to Mamatha, Rajesh pilot, Madhav Rao Scindia in the past. Look what they are doing to Shashi Tharoor.

KALPETTA: Petrol pumps refuse to offer fuel for the army who came for rescue operations following state government’s request in rain affected districts. As the weather deteriorated, the troops travel on off-roads and in military vehicles. Such vehicles with less mileage need more fuel. The troops approached three petrol pumps for fuel at Sulthan Bathery in Wayanad. But petrol pump owners were reluctant to give fuel, saying there was no guarantee to get paid and the revenue department has not given a receipt also. Army officials requested for fuel twice, but the owners did not change their stand. The army then seized the petrol pumps with special powers for disaster management. They then left after filling full tank.

We aren't held back because we talk too much about Hinduism or temples; we're held back because we weren't assertive enough and didn't permanently settle these issues in 1947. So if the good officer is so concerned about China, National Progress etc; he should be even more in favor of properly and effectively settling these issues ASAP.

Agreed but more importantly,
The downfall of China would be due to this very fact, too much emphasis on material things and none for the soul.

Seen it happen many times through out history.

Just look at HongKong as an example, no way Chinese can contain that &
more importantly the resistance would surely be having an impact in mainland.

I'm coming around (back) to Modi too. 370 obviously being the big push.

But what you (and we) are seeing is the evolution of a fascist state.

One where sooner rather than later, our vote, if we still get to keep it, won't really matter.

Because there will be only one party. One ideology.

As Henry Ford once said ... you can have any color, as long as its black.

Or saffron ...

Cheers, Doc

Funny how you didn't seem to mind when that was (much more) the case with Congress's single party-single family rule for a rough ~60 years.
