Shaurya is 700 KM range class. This Tochka is ~ 150 KM.
Shaurya has a 750 km to 1150 km range actually depending on the warhead weight. Its quasi-ballistic, as in it can fly pretty low and blisteringly fast. It can attain speeds of Mach 7.5 even at low altitudes, though it can't fly as low as say a brahmos. Should we get down to using ballistic missiles the excess range will not hold us back.

But that's not the point. We have never purchased ballistic missiles, as far as I know. So why now ? And this isn't from a very reliable source. Let's wait for additional info if any.

The excess range might not be the problem - cost per round will be especially if there is ready availability of something cheaper.

Fair point. But ballistic missile exchange is a "desperate times--desperate measures" kind of situation. Unlike trading bullets, mortars, artillery etc which are fairly common across the LoC. Not sure how much of our decision will be influenced by cost if we ever get to ballistic missile exchange scenario.
Delhi would probably care more about accuracy of strike, speed of engagement etc over cost since ballistic missile exchange isn't a routine affair. Let's just wait, all we are doing now is discussing rumours.
