No.
PIOs with dual citizenship when they are in India for longer term can qualify for right to vote just like any citizen does.

No thanks.

Its not that hard to understand, unless you are deliberately trying to not understand.. Dual citizenship does not necessarily confor additional rights to dual citizens. It only makes them equal to citizens and the same regulations apply for both of them. Neither a citizen not a dual citizen will be able to vote unless he fulfills the "ordinarily resident" requirement. He won't be able to register in voter list unless he proves that he is living in that electorate for long enough time.

If a person has a job in India, especially with a job like Chief Justice of India then he will have to stay in India. Unless you are suggesting that he can fly in daily from Washington DC or Riyadh. Workplace WILL be in India for such jobs, so you have to live in India. You are getting totally ridiculous now.

BTW, as an extension of what you are suggesting, EVEN now, a CJI can get PR in Canada or Australia and live indefinitely in those places. Does such a possiblity (remote) shifts Indian supreme courts to Australia or Canada or Malaysia?

Well, "dude", like always, you don;t have a clue of what you are talking about. So chill.

Not gonna happen.

Of course, you will live in India, like Raghuram Rajan did when he was RBI's guv. Ran back to the US the minute his stint was done.

We don't want such people here.

I knew some ppl who were working in India despite no longer being citizen. Unless the person themselves reject Indian passport and get their name removed from the electoral rolls there is no way to ascertain they are not citizens. There is no rigorous voterid validation every time before election. The very idea of allowing outsiders to vote will end up making us a banana country.

:ROFLMAO: first we should make Indian citizens pay tax, then we can make others pay tax. This is not even practically feasible. Even US has to enforce FATCA. how will India do it?

Pretty much. We are far too poor a nation, far too uneducated with far too many "enemies" to allow dual citizenship and voting rights for NRIs.

We can eventually make some concessions to NRIs, but this also has to be planned thoroughly.

Taxes... :ROFLMAO:

See above.

You don't have enough authority to call it "We".

Usually these issues are settled by in the same manner other policy issues are settled. When a bunch of people become large enough to matter as a possible vote bank or influencers in indian elections, their demands are paid heed to by political parties. Rest are all implementation details. Modi has shown how these folks can be a good asset as influencers in indian elections to his political party, enough that even congress is reaching out to these folks via their "overseas friend of congress" NGO.

At the end of the day, these matters are settled politically. Will 10 million folks who can possibly vote be any good to political parties? I guess "yes". Lets see what happens.

Its not just ppl like raghuram rajan most of the Indians in US have their kids as US citizens. They simply dont want them to be Indians and worse is ppl got educated at the expense of Indian taxpayers. They pay taxes to foreign govts have kids as foreign citizens but come to India for education or medical treatment to save money. Its all for benefits.

Now why in the world should we allow ppl who dont pay taxes here avail the benefits suck a poor country like us high & dry.

Yep. They want dual citizenship only for the benefits.

The only way it can be given is if we start taxing all "citizens" globally, and on their global income.

It was a lot closer than pollsters predicted, but as expected it seems Joe Biden will be the 46th President. Trump still has time to fight it out in the courts, but judging by how he lost both the popular vote and electoral college, it will be a tough case to sell.

Polling and faith in media presentation of data is definitely shaken though. Just like 2016, too many outlets portrayed the election as an overwhelming landslide for Biden and Democrats in Congress. I wonder if it's biased data collection or just a phenomena specific to Trump. The people responding may also be lying to pollsters which might influence the outcome.

It will be hard to fight this in court, unless they pull few rabbits out of the hat, like some testemony by poll counting staff of some irregularities. Remember, Trump lost not only in blue states but in a red state like Georgia too. So, its a bit hard to agree to.

The biggest change was that voting by mail increased the participation. That usually helps democrats. Besides, republicans promoted voting in booth. I am pretty sure some republican voters decided to not to vote at all because of covid danger. Neither by mail nor in person. Democrat voters usually tend of be less motivated than republican voters but if you make it so that voting becomes very convenient then they might just vote. This year there was a major focus of early voting and vote by mail. There was what is called as "drive by voting". People drove their cars to submit vote in envelops.

These are all straw polls just small sampling. They are more like astrologers who view few stars and predict the future of universe. More often they be will seeing dead stars.

they can certainly make some votes invalid like they were cast late. I think this will be the route they will take and validate the counted votes. Given that that margin is in 1000's they have good chance to come back. Remember trump has his nominees in SC , it all depends whether they will be impartial or not.

I don't think we've heard the last on this one. Not yet. It's not exactly curtains for Trump but it's definitely a tough task for him to retain the White House. As expected the battle will move to the SC.

Let's examine how will the SC determine. To begin with , as a rule, no SC of a mature , robust democracy, however partisan it's composition, would like to get involved in a political slugfest. While all this may seem laughable today , especially in light of what transpired in 2020 where major reforms in the electoral process was called for in the aftermath of the SC pronouncing it's verdict, but didn't happen, the SCOTUS's reluctance even then was palpably visible & today too the attitude of the SC will be no exception to this rule.

What goes against Trump is the paucity of time within which he would have to muster evidence that the absentee ballots in the last of the 6-7 battle ground States viz Wisconsin, Minnesota, Arizona, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Nevada & North Carolina was rigged in a significant way in favor of the Democrats. In case he does manage to produce such evidence, the SC will have the difficult & particularly unpleasant task of having to pronounce it's verdict on it.

It can't do so without raising serious questions on the entire polling process of the US Presidential elections. Add to that the fact that Trump will go for broke. He'd throw everything he has against the Democrats including the kitchen sink hoping that some of the muck will stick. If this also includes inciting his particularly militant band of supporters, you're looking at major riots in every prominent city of the US, in a bid to pressurize / almost blackmail the SC into pronouncing a favorable verdict.

The SC wouldn't want to be saddled with this hot potato & in line with the Constitution will in all likelihood toss it into the Congress. Here's where things get interesting. According to the US Constitution, in the absence of a clear Verdict with the judiciary being unable to decide, it falls upon the Congress to duly elect a President & a VP before 20th January 2021 by which date both of these positions must be filled.

Ideally one would wish for a consensus which though possible, won't materialise given the extreme divide between the 2 principal parties. Hence, the House of Representatives tasked with electing the President would , voting on purely partisan lines elect Biden as President given the majority the Democrats command in the House whereas the Senate tasked with electing the VP would similarly vote on partisan lines & choose Pence, given that the Republicans command a majority in the Senate.

However bizarre this sounds, let's face it, this procedure is written down in the Constitution & folks, pls take a look around. We're in 2020. All that which was considered inconceivable even in nightmares up until a year ago, has come to pass.

First things first, you are uninformed about the education part :

The OCI/PIO folks seeking admission in IITs etc are not offered subsidized seats unlike citizens and residents of India. They are treated as a foreign students and they pay significantly higher fee than someone whose seat is subsidized by the government.

Secondly, as far as medical treatment goes, Medical treatment sought by someone coming from outside India is usually catered by private hospitals. I highly doubt that they will offer any subsidized treatment. Its simply business for them, a service.

As far as "seeking benefits" goes, isn't that everyone including Resident Indians seek too? Each year, lots of resident Indians seek admission in foreign universities and try to get institute assistentship to reduce their bills. Not to mention, those students who are resident in countries with public health care like Canada seek publically funded health insurance and health care.

The benefits are always mutual. No one does any special concession on another. Indian private hospitals seek business and offer cheaper treatment in India to anyone (OCI or otherwise) than their US counterparts. Indian Institues actually WANT to attract more foreign students but they are not exactly succeeding at it. These students bring in much needed money. OCI folks are offered seat under these foreign seats only.

It works both ways.

Indian residents also seek foreign citizens for benefits. IITs etc seek foreign students (including OCIs) for their benefit in terms of global rankings.

If that is the only argument that "They seek dual citizenship only for benefits", then I guess what else do you expect? Someone seeking dual citizenship for "altruistic" purposes? When was the last time you applied for a visa/PR for purely altruistic purposes?

Only thing is that having dual citizenship is mutually beneficial for India and for these folks.

Agree. A lot of people are afraid that the SCOTUS will give the election to Trump along partisan lines but I think that the Justices of the Supreme Court will act to preserve the integrity of their institution. Trump will fight the result tooth and nail... but at the end of the day, if he is unable to produce extraordinary evidence of election tampering or fraud, there is nothing he can really do.

Highly doubt that SCOTUS will yield presidency. Most of these career government officials are more loyal to the chairs and lobbies than to a person.

Trump is the person who is making this noise about unfair election with very little evidence. That is not good for republican party and for someone who is aligned with they party.

Remember everything said and done, Trump is still an outsider in the system. He has only one more term to worry about, the party has its entire future and SCOTUS nominee has her entire career. There is a reason why republican party is somewhat guarded in supporting Trump's claims.

Seriously are you telling me they are coming to India bcos they like Indian education and it is world standard? or is it just greedy mean ppl who cant afford education in their adopted country and want to save money.

I am not going to argue with your fallacious selfish arguments. Hard truth is that citizens pay taxes for their benefit, only after a country takes care of their citizens rest of them matter.

Just imagine, for a person to be productive it takes 20-25 years , the amount of investment & time that goes through making the person productive is enormous. Now when these ppl abandon and pay taxes to foreign country they are of no use to India. Its a utter waste. To top that they want to come back and take advantage of the country again? Thats pure nonsense. (obviously you will argue that there is nothing legally wrong in doing so , yes thats right. But why would any country allow that.)

In simple words its like a son/daughter abandoning their family once they have grown up. Sorry mate that doesnt cut.

I never claimed "why" then are coming, I only claimed that "what they are paying" or "are they getting benefit of subsidized education in India or not.".
If they are coming for cheaper education, then what is the problem in that? So long taxpayers are not footing their bills. Actually, IITs have long sought foreign students and they don't get any. Very few OCIs and fewer non-OCIs.

I am not going to argue with your fallacious selfish arguments. Hard truth is that citizens pay taxes for their benefit, only after a country takes care of their citizens rest of them matter.
Hard truth is that citizens are not subsidizing education of foreign students or OCIs. They pay their entire fee without any assistanship. You are grossly mis-informed.

No, it does not work that way. The folks who studied here in India and went out of India had their own parents pay taxes in the first place. Most of their education happens in private schools and only college education happens in state funded institutes. So, it is false to claim that such folks owe massively to India -- most of the time, their own parents have paid more than enough in taxes.

Also, lately, the fees paid by students has been linked to family income, meaning a person whose family earns enough will pay the non-subsidized fee.

Lastly, these folks who are in foreign soil also bring a good amount of remittance. 60 billion or more dollars each year. 20 billion dollars from USA, Canada, UK, Australia, NZ combined alone. Our forex reservers benefits from it.

Want to know something even more profound? Pakistan's dispora brings in even more. 22 billion dollars per year. For a country much smaller than us and a dispora which is even less skilled than us. Why? Because Pakistan allows dual citizenship and has many programs to help remit and invest in Pakistan. One of the reasons Pakistan didn't completely buckled under sanctions was because its forex reserves got a decent inflow from remittences and investments.
In simple words its like a son/daughter abandoning their family once they have grown up. Sorry mate that doesnt cut.
Mate, they have to abandon simply because India's archiac citizenship laws are incompatiable with reality of globally mobile workforce of present times. India practically slams door on them.

Pakistan has much better citizenship laws than us, so does Bangladesh, so does Sri Lanka. They all allow dual citizenship.

(y) you shud ask them why they run away from their country which was specially created for them in the first place.
