Not every terrorist attack can be stopped, most of the time intelligence will be available if the attacks are being planned inside the territory.
There are always useful idiots to do the dirty job that does not absolve Pakistan of the attack, this trick is not some thing new remember the so called "Indian mujahideen" which was planted by ISI ?
IED's can be made from fertilizers no need to smuggle from outside. This is not a job of a small time local militant but it bears all the hallmarks of professional hit job right from tracking convoys to how to ambush them in military style. Only other ppl who would keep track of such large scale convoy/enemy troop movement is Pakistan military.
Stop using the election ruse its pretty much worn out, JEM has already claimed responsibility for the attack that should put all your theories to rest.
I would like to say, if our leaders ever grow a spine and decide to attack,then the attack and destruction should be of the Pakistani army.They are the real enemy,real terrorist.
Attacking terrorist launch pad and killing few low life terrorist would serve no purpose.If you want to drive home a message, flatten their brigade headquarter,terrorist are only tools in the hands of Pakistani army.Pakistan army is the brain,motivation and intention behind this.And if this escalate into war ,then so be it.
If the war happens ,it should alter the map of Pakistan,nothing less would do.We should have a clear objective and that should be achieved, no matter what!
Now I will excuse myself from this thread,as I have already burn my soul,mind and heart in agony and expectations many a times during previous incidents and given up on the Politicians and bureaucrats who wield the power in this country.
Only a strong retaliation where Pakistani army has to bear the brunt ,will restore my faith in the present system,else I will continue to believe that we are a lost cause as a nation, civilization and race.

You will go to war and do what? If they planned the attack they would already be on alert isnt it?
India does not have a long time strategy to deal with pakistan, we simply lack assets on ground to make them think twice to conduct such attacks.
what you & most ppl are resorting to is knee jerk reaction, which will remain in air some time and then simply fade away. It will take another 10-15 years to build up assets on the ground to pay back Pakistan in their own coin.
Actually Pakistan is far more vulnerable. The only thing we need to do right is NOT to do what they expect us to do. Hit where they expect us the least and provoke them. Make them purchase more weapons and break their economy completely.
It was extremely foolish to just let those 90,000 walk back with tails between their legs back to where they came from. Not even a tribunal allowed for their victims that were calling for some modicum of justice.

The target of retaliation should be Pakistani state and army. Killing some expendable fighters of some terror outfit and calling it a surgical strike will not change anything.
Americans tried that in Afghanistan, killed tens of thousands of expendable foot soldiers only to be replaced by jihadists from pakistani Madrassas. Go for the root cause of terrorism, aka Pakistan Army and state. As long as Pakistani army didn't feel pain, they will not have any incentives to stop the game.

First of all, China is blocking sanctions on JEM in UN. Its time we say straight to China, either you step back, or India China trade is stopped at all levels indefinitely. That will hurt them.
These sanctions are eye wash..... What happened to LeT? Hafees Saeed still roams the streets of Lahore......How long it takes to change the name ?

Their recognition is important too. Its our problem that we fail miserably to do anything after they are acknowledged by UN.

You think Chiefs receive orders for such things? What then, if I may ask, is the role of the General Staff Operations at various formations? At every unit level, contingency planning starts the moment such things takes place. No one waits for official 'informal' orders. If there is flooding in Chennai, the nearest Army Units already begin getting stores from Engineers (boats, life rafts, life jackets etc) and start demarcating men and vehicles to carry material for the same.
Similarly, now, units would be getting their vehicles ready and other logistics would be worked out.

But I shall only give you one free advice, never suggest obliquely to any soldier, that he/she does not have the guts for a war, without ever having been battled tested yourself first.

Never is time a constraint on retaliation. In fact, the best is always later. As the enemy does not expect it and has the guard down.
But with the previous political ownership of the strikes in 2016, the GoI today has boxed itself in. It has to act overtly and take a political ownership of the same in order to avoid paying a cost in elections.
Due to snowed out conditions and launch pads being empty, I do not foresee any land incursion. Covert strike at terror infrastructure in Pakistan can not be publicly owned. The only option that remains is, and here I am speculating, perhaps a stand off strike with Heron TP? This permits Pakistan to say nothing took place thereby easing the pressure on them to launch a war yet allows India to retaliate and take political ownership
