How Did India Manage to Build an Advanced Fighter Jet Like the Tejas?

It's a year old article in what's considered a "respectable journal ."

The level of condescension is to be seen to be believed but if you get that out of the way it's a decent article. Oh , btw before I forget , the author is from Australia - the only "developed" nation without an independent automobile ,space , defence , software , IT , CE industry or at least no notable names in the said sectors except light to medium mfg.

Why we are not hearing any news about LCA delivery, last heard it was held back due to some issues with Israelis system (late delivery).

Is it some arm twisting by usa to force india to shed its neutrality in Russo -ukranian war .....
No further rafale order, hal caught in its vortex of inefficiency, we are totally at the whim of chinese who are producing plane like never before and very soon will even outmatch usa ,never understood how our policy makers can even behave like this ....it goes against the very grains of rationality...

There's no way for us to compete with China this decade. Covid killed some suppliers due to state laws, where one agreed for production to continue because it's a BJP run state, another stalled production because they want the lockdown to continue and blame the centre for it. And so on. Petty politics has delayed all military programs.

After buying 36 Rafales and 83 LCAs, now the IAF is focusing on deals with Russia. 12 new MKIs are coming in along with the MKI MLU program. And even the earlier agenda of 21 Mig-29s is still on. The core anti-China capability will realistically happen only in the later part of the decade with LCA Mk2 and MRFA.

To put it in numbers, from 2020-29, we will see inductions of 25 MKIs, 34 LCA Mk1s, 73 LCA Mk1As, 36 Rafales and 21 Mig-29s, which will give us a total of 185 jets this decade. So it's still a pretty impressive number. But, hey, if we manage to squeeze in 36 more Rafales during this time, I'm not gonna complain. If we are really lucky, we will see an LCA Mk2 and an MRFA squadron each inducted before 2029 is over, if we are really lucky, but I'm throwing the lot in for 2030+. It's really not all that bad.

From 2030-39 is when we will see the inductions of 170+ LCA Mk2s and MRFAs each, along with at least 80-100 of the 140 AMCAs. So at least 400 jets. Sh!t load of drones too. We will probably never achieve such numbers again in the next 50 years.

LCA Mk2 already in prototype construction phase.AMCA also starts its prototype construction phase .TEDBF will be literally non stealth version of AMCA .
So within this decade we will have 3 types of jets either in production or in development.
No need to compare with Chinese because their mission is to compete West ,Japan and cant pledge all their resources against us .

Our priority must be highly advanced air assets this can ensure a no fly zone above Pakistan within a day .Once that happened we can plough them without invade .
Purpose should be crippling of their capabilities.
Once that achieved we can turn to Chinese border after keeping minimal assets on western side .

Yep, China has its own bigger problems to deal with. But we will still be behind China if the Rafale doesn't measure up to the J-20.

It's a funny pattern but I have seen a lot of anti-Indian propaganda and subtle digs on India by these Australian think tanks and policy guys. Just an observation.

At the time of examination of Demands for Grants, the Committee wished to be
apprised about the combat capabilities and benefit of Tejas and it will be helpful in
replacing aging fighter fleet of IAF. In this respect, the Ministry of Defence informed
through written reply as under:
“(a) Tejas is a 4th plus generation Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) with a glass
cockpit and is equipped with Satellite aided Inertial navigation system. It has a
digital computer based attack system and an autopilot. It can fire Air to Air
missiles, bombs as well as precision guided weapons. It has high manoeuvrability
and agility due to its light weight composite structures and fly by wire control. The
Initial Operational Clearance (IOC) aircraft are armed with air to air missiles,
Helmet mounted display and Precision guided weapons like laser Guided
Weapons. These aircraft are also capable of dropping unguided bombs with much
higher accuracy due to highly advanced indigenous mission computer.
Additionally, the Final Operational Clearance (FOC) aircraft will have the capability
for air to air refuelling.
(b) LCA can be relied on to meet the operational requirements and roles
assigned to the aircraft. Additionally to augment the operational employment of the
aircraft, integration of long range indigenous beyond visual range (BVR) ASTRA
Missile and stand-off weapons is being undertaken. The aircraft design features
along with capable sensor and weapon suite would optimise operational
employability of the aircraft in the dynamic and evolving threat environment posed
by our adversaries.
(c) The LCA and its variants are being integrated with contemporary weapons
and sensors to maximise its operational utilisation. LCA and its variants along with
a healthy mix of different aircraft types and class would meet the spectrum of
capabilities and operational roles required to pose credible deterrence.
(d) Phasing out of ageing fleet of aircraft has resulted in drawdown of fighter
squadron strength. 83 LCA Mk-IA are planned to be inducted into four Squadrons
of IAF. These would replace the MiG 21 and MiG 27 squadrons. Replacing these
with LCA will definitely be beneficial to the Indian Air Force.”
Further on the subject, the Ministry also apprised about the total number of Tejas
being procured by IAF and money spent:
“Total 123 number of Tejas in different configurations are being procured by
Indian Air Force at a total contract value of Rs. 51724.07 crore”.

50,000 cr looked big 10 years back.
Amount the the indigenous project saved for the country...

But after the write offs, waive offs.. NPA s..

Amount looks puny considering even the ecosystem is developed with that amount.

While some explained AMCA would cost more becuz it's 5 th gen.
Let's see the amount they wanted and already are apologizing for it.

It's ll expose the group that doesn't want the money to be spent on AMCA.

Doubts.. Doubts..
When production itself getting delayed because of some parts unavailability, how can we ensure availability of aircraft during war time..!
