LCA Tejas Mk1 & Mk1A - News and discussions

When he said "About 3 years from now.", he's referring to the Mk1A.

FOC deliveries will start this year and end next year. In 2021, we will see deliveries of trainers. Then, Mk1A the next year.

There is a chance for the trainers to be delayed, not sure about that.

He said trainers over and above that..

" 1st flight is not important for IAF. 16xIOC fighters are inducted. 16xFOC fighters are in the production line. Once that finishes, Mk-1A will occupy production line. Delivery will start after FOC delivery completes. About 3 years from now.
Trainers are over & above "

Any idea what level progress achieved in building the next 8 SP s?

@lcafanboy
Foc SP 21 will be out by September. I suppose 4 by Dec and 4 by March and rest 8 by end of 2020. After which foc trainers will start rolling out and all 8 should join IAF by end of 2021. If they stick to schedule Mk1A should be out by 2022 start.

They'd be out by the beginning of 2022 , if we sign the contract now. There's no sign of any activity on this front. Pls remember long lead items like the turbofans etc require minimum 2 years lead time with a tidy advance.

MK 1 A was a Bad idea

They should have started MK 2 in 2014 itself

We could have had MK 2 Block 1 with Elta 2032 Radar Ready by Now
AND Block 2 with AESA later on

We weren't able to make Mk1A in this time..
How do you expect Mk2 to be completed in time?

What is IAF ' s main demand

More space for SPJ and more internal Fuel
Capacity

They should have started with MK2 Block 1
Without many modifications and
MK2 Block 1could have been ready by now

The other changes like Internal jammer
AESA and IRST all could be done in
Block 2

MK 1 space is limited and they are going for Many changes in MK 1 A

So delays are Natural

@Gautam only 5 inch smart display is ordered or other 7 inch I think display s were also ordered for nk1A?

Because elsewhere someone mentioned wide single screen display with side stick even in mk1A

If parrikar thought mk2 could be done easily, he wouldn't advise d interim Mk1A

Parrikar was Mislead by DRDO

They promised MK 1 A in 2019 after it was
Approved in 2015

So now we are going slow with MK 1 and
MK 1 A is unknown entity

Therefore IAF is going for More MIG 29s

We are delayed in almost everything..
Mk1A at least we know, work is started, engine is not ordered ( waiting to see if Kaveri made a comeback with French help )

And test pilot mentioned multiple parallel program so are being done in Lca..
Good to know.

Kaveri won't be used on Mk-1a or even on MWF. If we are successful in making a Kaveri engine, it'd most likely power them in the MLU of these AC.

We should have simply bought more Mirage 2000 and MiG 29 and then upgraded them

At least this Feeling of Despair would not
Have been there

How many more pilots will die in Mig 21 , Mig 27 and Jaguar

Just looking for a outside chance.

With GE at least if they made a advanced F404 than IN20 version, it ll be good.
But time is already short, we haven't even ordered.. So in all probability same engine.

------

Drop tank new shape with negligible drag etc mentioned in article by Indranil has to be reviewed to know what we can expect.

Mirages are not available and costly to update ( even then no aesa or meteor) - better off with buying new rafales

Mig 29 - not sure we ll buy again.

Mirages were available , we did not buy

And now we are buying 50 more Mig 29s
This is as per Prasun Sengupta

Have you read that unused Mig29 airframe in Russia were actually returned by Algeria or some county because of poor make?

All these are hear say things

IAF needs Aeroplanes

Without planes you dont have a Air Force

More MiG 29s are necessary for CAPs

When ever tensions rise , you have to fly large number of CAPs

MiG21s are dropping out of the Sky

Why waste Sukhois for CAPs

MiG 29 with New Long range R 77 will help a lot
