Maybe it was not an avalanche.. When going beyond Finger 4 towards Finger 5, the Indian patrol has to walk in single file, because of the narrow ridge. So, maybe they slipped and fell.. or maybe they were really ambushed... Can't be sure..

An Avalanche is not soft ice but bolders of Ice which are as hard as solid rock.

Seems what we discuss here are read by PLA also. Just a few days back we discussed this part about GB and BRI and how India can be more beneficial for China than Pakistan. If the so called offer is indeed true, than Chinese are willing to give us whole of POJK including GB but they are holding back POJK as part of negotiations.
IMHO, India should accept this provided this includes whole of POJK, GB, Aksai Chin and settlement of boundary with China all across LAC. Once that happens we can have a no-war pact with China and Pakistan. This will give lot of strength to China to settle its disputes with other nations and settle the Taiwan issue without fear of India joining the international coalition against them. China will get Taiwan in return for barren Aksai Chin and massive return on its investments on BRI beyond what they had ever imagined.

But Pakistan will never agree to this proposal and even if they agree to GB, they will never agree for POJK as the IB in that case will run over the mountain crest of western most range of Pir Panjal and after that heart of Punjab will be exposed to India.

Relax! There's a difference between reacting to a problem & over reacting . The former is almost always a result of careful analysis & the latter mostly an emotional visceral reaction.

Let us try and analyse what caused this standoff.
  1. Mishandling of covid19 resulting is reduction is stature of Xi. Giving rise to opposition to his authority in CCP.
  2. BRI without India thru GB had been a sore point for China and many in CCP had questioned this considering that India had always stated that they want to retake POJK & GB.
  3. Removal of article 370 and unequivocal statements from India to retake POJK.
  4. Increased hostilities along LOC.
  5. The real fear of an assualt across LOC by India to retake POJK thereby completely throwing BRI out of work resulting in huge loss of investments for China and consequential eroding of XI's authority within CCP.
  6. Stop building an alliance against China like QUAD.
  7. Weaken India so that it is not able to disrupt Chinese game plan in Taiwan and Hongkong and prevent it becoming a regional power capable of challenging China in Asia.
So to address these problems and safeguard the investments in BRI and shore up fortunes of XI, China played a game with Pakistan. Which was
  1. to relieve pressure on LOC and help Pakistan.
  2. PA moved some of its forces forward and so did CCP. Their aim was to force India to back off.
  3. PLA was looking for a short intense skirmish to humiliate India and Modi thru this short skirmish and get concessions from India for BRI and make India join BRI.
  4. Make China the undisputed leader in Asia who can't be challenged.
  5. This would have also helped XI to deflect attention from poor handling of covid19, hongkong and BRI fiasco.
  6. In case this skirmish had grown larger, a two front war was a distinct possibility.
However what went wrong for PLA & PA?
  1. Rapid and equally bigger mobilisation by IA which actually was not factored in by PLA when they did the wargaming.
  2. Resolve of Modi and IA to fight on two fronts and yet not get buckled by the enormity of task at hand.
  3. The level of motivation of IA.
  4. Outstanding handling of situation by India diplomatically without rabble rousing.
What are the options now for PLA & PA.
  1. Either maintain the pressure and stand off indefinitely or de-escalate.
  2. Enter into negotiations to try and achieve the overall game of safeguarding BRI investments and bring India onboard on BRI.
  3. Offer India incentives to agree to these terms with give and take methodology.
  4. If we believe baba Banaras, the offer of GB is one example of this game plan. But it also shows that probably there are many secret clauses in the CPEC agreement which allow China to take over Pakistani lands in return for Chinese investments.
  5. This also shows the kind of stranglehold China has over Pakistan.
Shall we take the offer? I have already posted above in post #1316.

Sometimes, war is not the best option. One must wait for most opportune time to fight.
