Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning and F-22 'Raptor' : News & Discussion

Dassault :
ON TIME = On schedule.
ON SPEC = to the specified specifications
ON COST = with no $ risk.

F35 :
late, so late...
Not supercruising. Not carrying the specified payload. Not the right life time....
Over budget. And needed add on budgets to close the development. And not FOC so far....
The F-35 supercruises at M1.2, which is more than the Rafale can manage with the same fuel fraction and loadout.

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Navy has declared its fleet of F-35C fighter jets ready for war, the Department of Defense announced Thursday. The Navy joins the Marine Corps and Air Force as the third and final service branch to declare their F-35s ready for war.
"The F-35C is ready for operations, ready for combat and ready to win," said Commander Naval Air Forces, Vice Admiral DeWolfe Miller in a statement. "We are adding an incredible weapon system into the arsenal of our Carrier Strike Groups that significantly enhances the capability of the joint force."
Lockheed Martin, the Pentagon's top weapons supplier, designed three variants of the fighter in order to accommodate the unique needs of each sister-service branch: the F-35A for the Air Force, F-35B for the Marine Corps, and F-35C for the Navy.

"This milestone is the result of unwavering dedication from our joint government and industry team focused on delivering the most lethal, survivable and connected fighter jet in the world to the men and women of the U.S. Navy," said Greg Ulmer, Lockheed Martin vice president and general manager of the F-35 Program, in a statement.

The F-35, a fifth-generation stealth fighter, valued at an acquisition cost of $406.5 billion, has become one of the most challenged programs in Pentagon history. The laundry list of setbacks includes faulty ejection seats, software delays and significant helmet-display issues.
What means "ready to war"? IOC? FOC ?

FALSE.
F35 can't supercruise. The only "supercruise" is : after a short full after burner phase, and after in a slightly descent. It's not the LM supercruise definition.
We even don't know what was the load in this config....

Nope, it's M1.2 supercruise, which is nothing special since an EE Lightning could even do this clean.

F35 is aerodynamically shaped as a truck. Not the case of Lightning, which was designed for speed and acceleration.
F35 was design for air to ground mission, this is why it is slow and lumpish.
F35 is not supercruiser.

Far better shaped than a Rafale with several 2000L drop tanks to achieve the same range.

Never under estimate a Dassault fighter !
after all, the sole F16 shooted down until last month was fired by a Mirage 2000.... :p
It was an upgraded MiG 21 bis which shot down the F-16.
So this means that a Mirage 2000 is roughly equivalent to a MiG-21. By extension, this means that a Rafale is probably the equivalent of a MiG-23.

Every time you feel the urge to be superior or to ruminate and specially to philosophize or pontificate and subject us to your wisdom, watch this & reflect -

For every time I see this movie & consider Otto as brilliantly etched in an Oscar winning role by Kevin Kline , I'm reminded of you, even before I was acquainted with you . Virtually.

Monty Python's Black Knight was based on you.

Or that the F16 is less potent than a Mig21, so F35 is between Mig21 and Mig 23.

Monty Python can be good at times but mostly they're into juvenile humour. Why am I not surprised, you chose them.Like this clip you shared.

And remember -
Otto - Apes don't read philosophy.
Wanda - Yes, they do Otto, they just don't understand it.

Now that's classic British humour. Mostly directed at you know who, Paddy.
