Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning and F-22 'Raptor' : News & Discussion

What about the 10% of F-35s though? The US alone has 2,200 ordered.

Germany and Italy are also favouring new upgraded Typhoons to replace Tornado ECRs. That's another 200 aircraft.
The US INTEND to purchase 2200 planes. But it's history. It was in a time when the US (with an exception with USN) want a full stealth fleet. It not the case yet.
US will ordered new variants of SH18, F16 and F15 instead of costly and low versatile F35.
So these 2200 is a wet dream.

200 more EF ? We will see. It will be for Britain only the equivalent of 66 planes.

But Rafale will aso have some more ordres. At least 45 more for France. More than probably at least a follow on order for India (36, and maybe 114 + 57 + options), Egypt (12 to 24), and some other prospects (Marocco, Finland, Malysia, EAU, Switzerland...)

IN CONCLUSON : you are only producing parts of fighters....

And with Brexit there is another major risk to see Airbus leaving GB. So the aerospace britain environement will become weaker and weaker.

That's a good news for Lockheed, it means they'll sell four times as many.

German-speaking majority. 62% German speakers vs. 22% French speakers. Bern and Zürich, where the power is effectively concentrated, are German-speaking cities.

You're just preemptively building an excuse.
What's language got to do with military purchases? In India we speak more English than French, and we didn't buy the Typhoon.

Man, forget Dassault's excuses or LM's excuses. You are the one with all the lame excuses.
They're practically a French vassal state.

You ever wondered how the evaluation got accidentally leaked last, despite that not being common practice? How come no other evals have been leaked?

Actually, the figure comes from a time when they were winding down defence spending in general. Now, with China on the rise and enemy 5th gen coming on the scene they are likely to purchase at least that number.

The SH etc. are gap fillers.

200 more EF to replace Italian and German Tornados alone. Those prospects are a long way from certainties.

So what, we designed the EAP that the EF was derived from and everything important on the EF.

Let them go, we'll have plenty of money coming in when we make all your vehicle exports to the UK go from an SVA test one by one.

How do you mean? Switzerland is French-speaking and a long way from neutral. I've always suspected that their last evaluation was skewed and the leak of the results suspicious.
You are pulling our legs?

Switzerland is also german speaking.
If there is a neutral country, it is switzerland.
And, all the actual planes in the swiss army are US ones....

They're practically a French vassal state.

Lol. Who told you that?

You ever wondered how the evaluation got accidentally leaked last, despite that not being common practice? How come no other evals have been leaked?

The Rafale was so good that the Swiss AF made a hue and cry about choosing Gripen instead. It was leaked by their air force, who are not part of the decision making process.

Germany officially knocks F-35 out of competition to replace Tornado

Germany’s Ministry of Defence has officially ruled out the F-35 joint strike fighter as a choice to replace its aging Tornado fleet, Defense News has learned.

An official from the ministry confirmed that the F-35 is nota finalist in the competition, which seeks a replacement for the 90-jet fleet.

Competing against the Typhoon is Boeing’s F/A-18E/F Super Hornet.

German defense officials on Thursday evening stressed that no decisions had been made besides reducing the playing field to the FA-18 and the Eurofighter Typhoon.

Strange they don't open the competition to the rafale, now that the futur of fighter fleets will be written in german and in french.

SH18 is a bad choice.... maybe to give the US the illusion of a potential win, to calm Donald.

Sur between EF and SH18, they will chose EF. They just have to increase it's range by adding bigger ex tanks (it's not so easy) or conformal tanks.

Industry bids are in for Finland’s $13 billion fighter race
The aircraft types covered in the proposals are Boeing’s F/A-18 Super Hornet, Lockheed Martin’s F-35, France’s Dassault Rafale, the British-made Eurofighter and the Swedish Saab Gripen.

This is great. Another contest between the F-35 and Rafale. And at least Finland's requirements will be far more advanced than the Swiss, particularly in recce and strike.

Reactions: Bon Plan
Spain isn't buying any F-35 in the first place, last time I checked, so it would be off-topic in this thread.

The point is that the UK economy is in better shape than most European customers of the F-35.

Plus we'll have a lot of extra money soon because we'll be getting rid of something that's been bleeding us dry for 46 years.
