Maritime Patrol Aircraft : P-8I Neptune, Dornier-228 : News & Discussions

We should envy South Korea, Japan , France, UK, Italy and Germany in military tech and hope to best them all.

Turkey and Iran will never win a conventional war against a conventional army. What they have are asymmetric last options.

Not the 1st, 2nd or 3rd.
when we cannot even do what iran or turkey does , you think we can hope to best SK or japan? Seriously.

A funny man once said...

In heaven:

The police are British

The chefs are French

The lovers are Italian

The cars are German

And everything is run by the Japanese

This was bound to happen. It obviously has no immediate replacement.
The remaining 3 Il38s should at the very max last only till 2023 end. Hopefully this deal is expedited.

And in case SH doesn't get selected, an order for P8I and maybe Chinook may keep the USA still interested in our market enough so our intersts (political/economical) are served.

I actually hope they buy the next 4 too, build the fleet up to 22 instead of 18. It was already cut down from 28.

On the surveillance end, plenty of new stuff should come up over time. I'd actually like to see long term JVs in this area in the future.

MoD isn't that proactive.
Tritons are too costly for us.
Leased MQ9Bs are the gap fillers imo.

I think it's ridiculous to imagine these puny deals worth $3-4 billion would sway the US' geopolitical considerations.

The Gulf states buy tens of billions worth of equipment at one go and that still only works for as long as the US wants it to. Look at what's happening with the Saudis - its the geopolitics thar drive arms sales, not the other way round.

You can buy Europe's favour with arms deals, but the US' domestic MIC and needs are so great that any foreign purchaser's needs are dwarfed in comparison, so not wise to think these deals will have much influence.

The convergence of interests between India & US is strategic in nature, and it will continue for at least as long as the CCP's China is around. What we buy or don't buy from them in the meantime really doesn't matter IMO.

We are spending money elsewhere right now. After a few years, it shouldn't be a problem, ie, after P-8 and MQ-9 deals are completed. Triton is still undergoing development, so we are not in a hurry.

Over time, we will need more advanced surveillance drones from the US. We have to see if the US plans to export stealth drones for example, like the RQ-180 and its cousins.

Name a single product which Turkey or Iran has which can be used by wars by India.
we should ask the question other way around, how many countries are using our products?

By the way turks will be getting contract for helping us build auxiliary/support ships for Indian navy. Well you can say that Indian yards are full & dont have capacity, but the very fact they will be building it means we trust their capability.

The largest ship that Turkish consortium has ever built is a 15000 ton vessel. While we have ourselves built INS Aditya (24,000 tons).
There's is no logic in paying Turkish consortium that much for a 45,000 ton ship.

If the contract goes through, someone somewhere is making a lot.

Sensors/electronics will be imported. Rest we can surely do. The engine used is same we use in Do228 or HTT40.
Literally no issue. Most of sensors are any way longer lasting and can be imported from the Americans. Till then at least engine and air frame manufacturing along with license producing hellfires and brimstones would be a good addition.
