Mirage 2000H, MiG-29UPG, Jaguar DARIN III - Medium Multirole Aircraft of IAF

2nd Mig-29 UPG crash in 2 months.

I have said time and again.

If the military aircraft has Soviet/Russian design, the only way to gauge the true airframe life of aircraft is by how long the Russian Air Force is using them.

The Russian OEM will issue a 10 year certificate because all it does to them is gives them additional money.

They are selling 0 Mig-29/35s anymore, so a reputation loss is not a problem for them.
It would be Mig-21 Part 2. You won't need to worry about retiring them. If you keep flying them they will fall out and retire themselves before you can decommission them.

The only loser in this would be the occasional death of a pilot.
RN we don't have the luxury of retiring these airframes. Let's hope that this is a case of TF failure which the recently contacted new TFs will rectify.

Our MiG-29s are the joker in the pack in the upcoming war against China. Given the miserable state of affairs in the IAF at present or the immediate future the last thing we can afford is another series of FA whose airframe life is up & is living on borrowed time.

We'd have hell to pay when we go up against China especially w.r.t the IAF , not that we're not going to pay a heavy price as it is.

Actually Mig-29UPGs. & Mig-29K have done a stellar job against PLAAF post Galwan 2020. I was just hoping that we could have signed the remaining mothballed Mig-29 SMT airframes from Russia. But looks like that deal is in limbo now.

We have so many products developed or in development... But yet to be inducted in IAF.
HTT 40, Mk1A is ready..
IJT, Mk2 , Ghatak & Amca in development..
Tedbf, HLFT 42 yet to be sanctioned..

GE F 414 & JV 110kn engine also not concluded.

Unless we hasten the above, we ll be forced buy outside and that slows down our own project.

Now pressure is increasing in buying outside.
Supply chain issues ruling out new fighter procurement.

Seems like we left to buy second hand fighters..

France having any old Rafale / Mirages to sell?

We were discussing about loaning out 4 Rafale M.. For Naval training..

That's only a drop in bucket.

Looking for December.

  • Contract with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited for procuring RD-33 aero engines for MiG-29 aircraft of Indian Air Force, at an amount Rs 5,249.72 crore was signed on 01 Mar 2024 towards fulfilling IAF's need to sustain operational capability of MiG-29 fleet for next 15 years.

King of Qatar is in India on a visit. Any discussions on purchasing second hand Qatari mirage 2000s? Or is that proposal shelved?
Still available. And the qatari mirages are in the best condition out of all users. We could buy from the French too but the situation in Ukraine makes that seem unlikely.

Aare those old Mirage 2000s better than MK1A? Do those old planes make sense now (i.e. MK2 coming in 5 years)?

Almost a decade late to think about this.

We should infact reduce old squad to cannibalise for other squad.

Start retiring obsolete jets .. don't add any more old jets..

Tejas production capacity is already increased for this purpose.

Its more due to manpower already well versed with the mirages, like some hands on product you have long used so very quick turnaround is possible with existing infra and service pov. Should take adequate time with the mk1/mk1a version at first for that even though mk2 is the actual replacement.

Tejas production capacity depends on GE 404 engine Capacity (or maybe will of US government subject to arm twisting for US fighter especially Junk F-16). Has that increased? Please let me know...🤗🥱

We can Ready as many Tejas fighter Bodies without engine as we can but can we fly it like a kite near pakistan border tied with a Rope (Manja) without any engine in it....😹😹

Trump in.. so it won't be as bad as in Biden admin.

GE promised to supply all engines before the end of contracted period.

Hoping , Additional order for Next 97 batch would continue n that production rate.

Actually, Abhijit Iyer says that GE informed the timelines (the current "delay" as well) many years ago. HAL did not place the orders ahead to mitigate their risk.

Sarkaari baby's at it again.
