Well, as any aircraft, it has shortfalls. like no inner emports, no 3rd DDM-NG for real 360 coverage, and no MADL like link yet (except for B301 and C02 testbeds). further more, it would be good to enhance the engines, not for acceleration/speed, but electric generation.
Considerin those points, well you adapt your tactics according to your strong points (e.g. semi stealth from above for Rafale). like you would for any other plane. All in all, it is an excellent workhorse and generally shined in exercises (remember red flag when rafale hid behind SU30..., video of BFM vs F-22 etc etc.)

Saurab joshi is just a clown.

Surprised to see you go so low, I am used to better arguments and replies from you.

I disagree to some of his conclusions in the report as well, but he is definitely one of the best Indian defence journalists. Well written and sourced articles, not the usual sensational journalism and most of what he has written, is in public domain for a month now, he is just the first that took on the CAG report in a proper way and had the guts for calling out Dassault as well!

DDM provides 360 degree coverage, but only above the wings. Anything below the airframe and the wings is blocked, which is a major weakpoint. Apart of that...

...HMS
...IRST
...low collateral damage weapon
...SEAD weapon
...1000lb LGBs or PGMs
...Exocet upgrade or alternative

All areas, where Rafale lacks behind the competition today and that requires upgrades and before you say it, yes the hope is F4 by 2026.

It is the Indian politic and bureaucratic problem.
Dassault tried desesperatly a first export customer..... It was a big opportunity for India. Lost by Indian fault.

First Qatar Rafale delivered. With a HMS.
OSF has a IRST head. A newer model on study for India.
Low collateral weapon : we use a laser guided 250kg core bomb, filled with inert load. BAT120 derivative to come.
SEAD : AASM HAmmer, with 3 differents seekers, and 70km range.
1000 lb bomb : useless. 250kg or 1000kg do the job.
Exocet upgrade : Yes. Not a priority in French forces.

Don't make me laugh. India started MMRCA in 2001, took three years to send the RFI, then four more to send the RFP, and then five more to announce the shortlist. Who wasted time? India! India also took twenty two years to buy the BAE Hawk trainers, can you blame that on Dassault too?

Now let's take a look at what happens when a country other than India wants to buy the Rafale. Egypt send a letter of intent in December 2014, completed negotiations and signed the contract in February 2015. And the contract wasn't just for the aircraft and associated stuff, it also included warships. Still the whole thing was done and dusted in less than three months. Do you think that'd be possible if Dassault was in the habit of wasting everyone's time?

The Indian procurement system is a monster of bureaucratic inefficiency, and Indian politicians are slowing it down constantly for their own temporary political gain. That's 100% India's fault, and stop blaming other people for your own shortcomings.

The IAF has finalised the Air Staff Quality Requirements (ASQR) for the fighter programme and has moved the file for getting the Acceptance of Necessity (AON) from the Ministry of Defence.

Following this, the IAF will come out with an Expression of Interest (EOI) and finally the Request for Proposal (RFP).

“With the elections round the corner, the IAF expects to get the AON immediately once the new government is sworn in. The IAF expects the EOI to be issued by the second quarter of this year and the RFP by the last quarter,” a top source said.

However, industry sources feel this is a tall order in terms of time tables.

Not really new infos in the article, largely based on unnamed sources and warmed up infos we already knew.
We can notice that there is conformity between the ranking revealed by the article and the thread vote. The F-35 is not a candidate but then the first three are the Rafale with 76.7%, the F-18 with 4.2% and the Gripen with 2.5%.

Any possibility for Rafale to be delivered in under couple of months...

It will be huge opportunity to market Rafale world over ..

IAF can do it for Dassault.
