SH can manage its mission needs & a drone swarm (when it gets it) just fine, but all the same it cannot manage the whole battlespace, nor can it see what's happening behind it or tell the ground forces what to do.
That role will continue to be performed by manned AWACS for the foreseeable future, and unmanned ones in the distant future.
An AWACS is not necessary for everything else if the fighter takes over the combat bit.
The idea behind AWACS is it sees more than anything else. But it if stops seeing more, then all you need is a bunch of people on the ground managing the battlespace for other tasks which does not involve combat. In fact, you can do a better job on the ground, 'cause work is distributed among more people using better hardware than what's possible on an aircraft. Even something as simple as having multiple screens for each officer becomes a possibility.
