Off-Topic Chit-Chat

No, nothing comes close to the polarization of who India belongs to.

Everything else is secondary, because that is the core of India.

Which is under attack.

Cheers, Doc
Ultimately it will come down to this. One party or candidate talks about Hindu identity of the nation, another on caste benefits. I have a suspicion that one with caste may win. That said this is not the first time religious identity of India has been pushed for. This may be the first time it is a part of national agenda though.

I would advise people here who are moderating or are admins like @nair to totally cut off from Pakistanis and their forums if you are doing this initiative and those mods and admins who are outside, better consult government in India. This is not a joke.
You see, those Pakistanis immediately played the game by supporting you people. This could land you people in trouble. So beware of such behavior from other side.

I do not know where that happens.

As an Indian I have many friends and professional colleagues in the West. We talk about a lot besides work.

We see your news feeds (CNN).

We see your political debates, and Presidential races.

We read your opeds.

I have never seen what you are claiming.

Maybe I need to live there. But honestly, even under Trump, you guys are WAY more politically correct than Indians could be in another 500 years.

@Nilgiri @RATHORE ??

Cheers, Doc

It used to be true, and in my opinion, used to be one of the greatest things about the West/US. But unfortunately it's not true anymore, because white guilt wracked "liberals" (who aren't very liberal or tolerant) in the West killed it, in their quest for political over-correctness.

This is a transition that started a while back but picked up like crazy in the 2000's, especially after 2010. And in my observation, this is a greater movement of suicidal leftist fools across the world, often filled with dhimmi style useful idiots from the native populations; I say this because the biggest benefactors of this new state of political overcorrectness and "liberalism" are Islamists (not Muslims, Islamists) who have hitched themselves to the leftists, the leftists being oblivious to the fact that they are being used as a vehicle towards a goal under the guise of "tolerance" and "multiculturalism", and will be dealt with once the goal is reached.

And these people were a very big reason why Trump won in the US, and the entire world is watching a reactionary Right Wing resurgence all throughout.

Was talking about in your face discussions about religion in the public space like we tend to do.

Not in smaller protected sanitized spaces.

In my experience, Americans' eyes sort of glaze over and they start looking really contrite if the discussion veers towards religion. Even radical Islam.

At best you'll get murmurs of assent, agreeable nods and sounds. Very little opinion.

In India, school kids will be opinionated.

The answer isn't exactly straight forward. Originally in the US, they used to say you never discuss religion and politics in polite company, mainly as a way to avoid conflict, and to keep things civil (this was several decades ago though).

And in my experience, nowadays Americans hold back, because everyone is too afraid to be labeled a bigot - this goes for any level of discourse, public/private whatever.

Americans as a whole definitely aren't as loud and assertive about their opinions as Indians, they're always way more polite, even if that politeness is artificial and concealing their real opinion of you or the topic in question. There are some pockets though, where people are a bit more loud and unapologetic, for example, a lot of the people who came out in fervent support of Trump in the American South in spite of being labeled racists, bigots, Deplorables etc.

Yep would agree. There is way more raw churn and emotion in India....there is no overarching solid, omnipresent deep identity to really temper it either. This is both blessing and curse.

Please explain?

I would actually think that Indians have several degrees deeper, more irreversibly intertwined and entrenched, and a way more natural sense of self and peoplehood than Americans.

What is sense of people hood ; how is it different than nationhood

What I personally find funny is the blind loyalty of those who have been scammed in the name of their faith.

Scammed and loving it and begging for more.

You seem to be more worried than the Hindus who voted for BJP, whats the matter why are you worried,?any agenda? Hindus know who are their allies and who are its enemies.

Finding something or someone amusing is not the same as being worried.

It's a pognant moment, when the mirth wears thin.

After all, some of you are part cousins.

Looks to me like a worry, If BJP doesn't deliver its core voters will haul them over coals as they seldom do if party goes waywards.

No I'd like to assure you it is cynical amusement.

The BJP has already delivered.

Most of you have just yet not realised to who.
