On Friday, December the 22-th 2017 the final T-50 flight prototype T-50-10 (1-10) has conducted its maiden flight.

Its too early to fly a prototype with two I-30 engines. The engine is yet to be validated.

First Russian 5th generation Su-57 fighter jets to be put in service ‘very soon’


The Russian military is expected to receive the first batch of fifth generation Sukhoi Su-57 fighter jets “very soon,” the corporation developing the plane said. The jet was known earlier as the PAK FA and T-50.

“The newest 5th generation aviation complex T-50/PAK FA, for which we have high hopes and plans, will be delivered to the Russian Air Force very soon,” the Joint Aviation Corporation (OAK) said in a Facebook post.
Earlier on Saturday, a source in the aviation industry told Interfax that the delivery of the first planes of the maiden batch is expected to take place in 2018. A similar estimated time of delivery was given earlier by then-Russian Air Force commander Colonel General Viktor Bondarev.

The first nine machines are currently undergoing flight tests, according to the manufacturer. While the early jets were fitted with older “first-stage engines,” the Su-57 recently received a new engine
,developed specifically for the fifth-generation fighters. The fighter, fitted with the new Product 30 engine, successfully performed its maiden flight on December 5. While little is known about the specifications, the OAK said last year it was an entirely new engine designed from scratch.

The Su-57 jet fighter, designed to replace the iconic Sukhoi Su-27 in frontline tactical aviation, made its maiden flight in 2010. One plane has an estimated price tag of about $50 million.
The new planes have already been featured in several exhibitions, including the MAKS 2017 airshow last July. A pair of the aircraft, known then as the T-50, stole the show, performing a variety of amazing stunts. The Su-57 designation was officially confirmed for the new plane last August.

The aircraft features an entirely new planer, built largely from composite materials, modern radar and avionics. The new flight equipment allows the jet to exchange information in real time with other planes and ground command units, as well as perform individual missions, according to the OAK. The avionics provide a high level of automatization and “intellectual support”for the crew, helping pilots to focus on their tactical objectives.

The main armament of the plane is concealed in internal bays to boost its aerodynamic capabilities and reduce radar cross section. The Su-57 can also carry munitions on external pylons. The jet’s armament includes a recently modernized 30mm internal autocannonand a range of modern guided missiles.

India made a Big mistake by Sitting Out on this project
 
India made a Big mistake by Sitting Out on this project

What mistake? India didn't have much money for a fifth gen Jet and Anyway we were going to get screw driver tech or assembly line from the Russians. That offer will still be available in the future when the budget increases with economy in few years time, Russians are not going to make these SU57 in bulk for the next 5 years, they are also waiting for Block 2 or Mark 2 version.
 
Hope India doesnt bundle up on FGFA, it be India biggest long term strategical mistake.. (inclusive of Geo political reasons, need to balance USA & Russia both equally)
Hope to see more Rafale in TE & in SE Gripen in Indian inventory, else Rafale assisted improved LCA SE version.
Plus tons of continuously improved LCA & AMCA in future too.. :love:

Even as a project on the development of a Fifth Generation Fighter Aircraft (FGFA) between India and Russia remains stuck, a top Russian official said the talks are in the "second stage" and a contract document may be signed soon.

We need the FGFA R&D and MKI upgrade contracts signed ASAP. The sooner the better, before this year is out. Both will guarantee IAF's future for the next 30 years.

The MKI will get the newer NIIP radar, but I am more interested in the EW suite, whether it will be Indian or Russian. I believe this jet will only have Indian (including JVs with Israel) and Russian stuff in it.

As for FGFA, it will take 8 years minimum before we see something entering the IAF, not 6 years that the IAF hopes it will be.

No. We are going to make pretty much the entire aircraft in house.

MKI is at 51% by value, but 85% by components. So FGFA will be near 100%.

Only Two deals can move forward -- PAK FA and Rafale MII deals

Nothing will happen with Rafale in the near term. Any potential deal for a new order of 36 can only be signed the next decade at best.

As for Rafale MII-- there are two possibilities.
-There won't be a brand new MII program signed directly in favour of Rafale. Rafale will have to fight it out again in a new tender, TE MII, with all other competitors who are interested. That's SH, Mig-35, Typhoon etc. If you recall I used to talk of 3 MMRCAs for the IAF. That's the Rafale GTG, SE MII and TE MII. And there's no guarantee that the Rafale will win irrespective of the advantage. Hence, a third jet may come in.

-Dassault may take the initiative and start MII on their own if they get the IAF's second tranche and win the MRCBF. That's the only way they will get enough jets for MII. If that happens, GoI may be forced to cancel their TE MII tender and opt for more Rafales instead. But there's still quite some ways to go before the 36+57 orders are in Dassault's bag.

Right now, among tenders, SE MII is the first priority. FGFA is not a tender, it's a near-guaranteed purchase deal, so it's at a much higher level than assigning a "priority" to it. Neither SE MII nor TE MII has any bearing on FGFA. TE MII currently has a lower priority than SE MII and that favours FGFA.

The Modi govt may play around with the FGFA a bit, but they will ultimately sign it. Parrikar's worked out everything necessary to make it happen. Guaranteed ToT, increased workshare with time, IPR transfer etc. HAL obviously needs a fighter production contract for the IAF after Mk1A. Especially since all other MII programs are going to the private sector.

Now The question is whether we are getting Three New planes or Two

We have to replace Five planes in Twenty years Time
( Mig 21 ; Mig 27 ; Mig 29 ; Jaguar and Mirage 2000 )

PAK FA and Rafale are Sure ; MAY BE F 16 ; Tejas Mk 2

36 is too few. But 54-72 is a number the IAF can live with. They have done it with M-2000 and Mig-29.

A second small order is guaranteed, but MII is on the back burner right now.

PAK FA and Rafale are Sure ; MAY BE F 16 ; Tejas Mk 2

The IAF is backing the Gripen completely though.

Because of Mk1A, Mk2's entry is extremely doubtful. You can expect the IAF to operate 9 squadrons of Mk1/Mk1A in total.
 
We are not sitting it out, there are ongoing discussions but like India said they want the plane with ITEM 30 engine which is also in prototype stage, Russians are having few planes on order and in order for it to have an orderbook like that of F-35 it has to sell a lot of planes and Su-57 is not going to be cheap so not many countries can afford them either
