How will we be conducting our AIP trials on board a sub? Which sub have we earmarked for such trials given that both the last of the 6 Scorpenes originally to be fitted with these systems are not going to have it till the MLU? @Gautam ; @randomradio ; @Ashwin

No idea. Maybe they can use some Kilo or some other old sub at the end of its life. But if they are planning to wait until MLU of the Kalvari class, they might as well start increasing endurance from 14 days to higher. From the looks of it, DRDO's AIP, in its current form, will be obsolete until MLU comes around. Keep upgrading them continuously.

Land Based Prototype(LBP) tests were almost over right ?

I think they will have to wait for the first Scorpene to come into refit. But I don't know if anything's been planned in the interim though.

The first Scorpene will come in for a refit a good 10-11 years from now. What will happen in the interim? What kind of the AIP will Project -76 / 76I have?

The first refit should start by 2025.

AIP for P-75I will likely be DRDO's design.
Isn't the indigenous project titled -76 I? Besides the INS Kalvari was commissioned in 2018.Are you suggesting the first refit would happen with in 8 years? Isn't it more like 10-12 years?

Okay, I thought you made a typo there. There's no P-76I, there's no I, only P-76. P-75/75I are Scorpene and whatever comes next. Anyway, it's obvious P-76 will make use of DRDO's AIP.

As for refit, it happens every 6-7 years. So at least 2023. In fact, it's possible the first Scorpene may get its first refit even earlier, just to get the AIP on it.

TATA steel produce is going to produce as Tata steel is one of the world's best steel
it is used by BAE Systems and others too

Is this true???!!
@randomradio

Nobody can sell nuclear submarines to other countries. Or else you would have seen Russian Akulas all over the world.

What the French can offer is help and technology in the construction of our own SSN. They have offered something similar to Brazil, where they plan to integrate a Scorpene sub with a Brazilian nuclear reactor.

What I think is they are offering the conventional version of the French Barracuda SSN called the SMX Ocean or Shortfin Barracuda. Australia is building 12 of these subs. And along with the offer to build the same sub under P-75I, the offsets of P-75I can go into our SSN program.

Of course, the partnership can extend beyond just simply buying the SMX Ocean or help in building our own SSNs. France can always offer one of their own SSNs for lease to India. They can also offer to install an Indian reactor into the Barracuda as well.

Outright sale is impossible.

This offer of help and technological help was part of the original Rafale deal itself. It is being operationalised now. I had posted about it way back in 2015 itself on another forum.
