How did this thread poll included only Navantia and TKMS?
Only these 2 seems have qualified.
Is it because of it s partners, MDL & L&T?
Because those two are the only competitors left.
All the others (like Naval Group & Hanwha/Daewoo) either did not qualify or saw themselves out.
The "trend" is Congress is saying BJP will be lucky to get 200 seats, and BJP is saying they got 200 seats in just the first 3 phases alone.
So whichever party you support is the "trend."
It's not qualified per se, it's the number of competitors who have officially bid in July 2023. The official trials are set to happen now.
I think our thread poll started even before that.. Couldn't get the date..
Anyways I voted the third option..

Back then u were upbeat about Korean subs.
Yeah, the poll was set up after the Russians, Koreans and French quit, and the Germans re-entered.
The Koreans quit due to politics. So MoD brought the Germans back in. Germany wanted 12 months to design the sub. But because the contest was between Korea and Spain, IN wasn't interested in extending the RFP period by 6-9 months. But there were delays, then the Koreans quit, and Germany was given more time to complete their design and re-enter the tender. All this happened in 2022.
Spain was guaranteed to be part of the tender, so it was either Korea or Germany. And Korea was bound to win because their pricing is much cheaper than Europe.
Had it not been for Korea backing out, we would have seen a result by now.

Will India be focusing on nuclear or conventional submarines? Latter might be better should there be trouble around Indonesia etc.
With passage of time, nuclear will become priority.
Both. But the SSK fleet will significantly outnumber the SSN fleet for many decades. 18 vs 6. Which will take until the mid-2040s to deliver.
Beyond that is anybody's guess.
So as we know now, MDL want to complete in-house prelim design work of conventional sub by 2028. Ths work is parallel to the midget sub, which is said to be a proof of concept, ie a Tech demo sort. If taken up , that is definitely going to be scaled up a bit ?

U32 Submarine 
SSK will be priority. Indian Navy, though have some hints of a blue water navy, is mainly a defensive regional navy of ponds around us. SSKs fit that bill nicely.
For SSNs, only Russia can lease us subs. Making SSNs locally is 2-3 decades away.
I will say India should focus on maturing fuel cell based AIPs and augment all its conventional subs with that AIP. If it does it well, it can do JV with likes of Japan and France to offer optional fuel cell based plug-ins for AIP for their SSK designs.
India can take the best of breed SSK designs from France, Germany and Korea and augment it with its own AIP.

I would again say, best course of action is buy 6 more Scorpenes. Then buy 12 hulls of Barracuda from NG, use your own AIP Fuel Cell or French Fuel Cell (they have a working TD). And then work with NG to design an indigenous P76.
