HT is guessing actual funding number while ToI is giving it as Rs6500+2500 cr. Press release yet to come.

Defence Decode guys are saying full 10,000 crore is the sanctioned amount.

You are right, we need to wait for press release.

From the simulated presentation where mk2 & Amca were shown side by side, I got the impression both developments are concurrent ie theoretically both jets are developed side by side & in ideal scenario should enter production in similar timescale, within 1-2 years of each. Amca I guess CDR is pending? Both planes had design config finalised & frozen.
The delays would be if they need to change & re-design some parts, even re-shape something internal upon testing on prototype, say like re designing the cockpit or re shape the canards placement etc. Next there can be delay for some foreign delivered components even if already placed order. Otherwise we can expect mk2 to hit production right after mk1a are delivered, by 2027-28? I hope MK2 is tested as production ready prototype.

That said, HAL's 8 aircraft per year production line is absolute joke and they have 83 jets on order already plus more commitment on mk2 amca etc. What do they want, air forces will buy 500-1000s of a LCA category plane? Target should be at least 12 jets per year initially to show you are serious about production. If they actually put some of their recent marketing aggressiveness into production capability they would be in better shape. The easy lure of pension after retirement is a major hindrance for us.

This could be due to Ajay Shuklas report, and people considering 6500+2500 as 10000. Only the press release today or tomorrow will make it clear.

IAF's Top Priority is 114 MRFA

Which the Chief has made very clear recently in a Seminar

This Approval was Necessary for Clearing the path of the 114 MRFA Acquisition

Now it is Entirely in the Hands of ADA , what happens to MK2 programme

MK 1A took SIX years to become a Reality though it was derived from MK 1 and had many similarities
For a change ADA is giving realistic timeline!.

MMRCA and Tejas MK2 are two mutually exclusive programs/requirements.

Its like saying that because Army wants clothing for High Altitude warfare, therefore it won't need / procure / focus on clothing for Thar.

That is Right

But on Twitter , until recently
a narrative was being built that 114 MRFA is unnecessary and MK2 is enough

Whereas MK 2 is Not even ready as a Prototype

Most of the desi weapon fan gang have only got HAL people mainly HVT & some sporadic sources to feed off, hence they fall way too much into the pr part.
I never really found their sheer urge of projecting mk1a as multirole fighter, or going overboard with Mk2 by comparing it with rafale etc as logical.

To be honest it would be very uncharacteristic of HAL-ADA to maintain a very optimistic timeline of 2024 first flight to 2027-28 production. Perhaps ADA mean that their side of work will be followed as per timeline but red tapes can delay somewhat in between.
Mk1a flew on May 20, it will take at least a years flight and air testing of AESA radar & other subsystems I guess. First delivery of it is scheduled from 2024. If even 1 export order come out of everywhere HAL marketed it, will it delay the timeline?
Then we get into Mk2, which by 2027 will still be under validation flight trials. I think it will be too tight to maintain timeline. IAF not getting a fly condition Mk2 plane before 2030 at least. Maybe early batches will use imported certified content (Israeli radar etc) to reduce the time.

Risks are minimal with Mk2 development. Four years of flight testing with four airframes it's achievable.

If there is any risk, IAF should commit for one squadron in IOC standard starting 2027. Which will smooth out the production timelines.

Good time to re-watch these:

Unnecessary comparison with Rafale.

Like Tejas MK1A is good enough in technology, range, payload, weapons to replace the Mig21/23/27 capabilities, similarly Tejas MK2 needs to be good enough a replacement for Mig29UPG, Mirage 2000I and Jaguar DARIN III.

That's itself a very formidable aircraft capable of doing so. But no need to compare it with Rafale.
