Yeah, but it's the US that has a military base on those Chagos islands of ours.

You think a 114mm naval gun won't do anything? That gun will have hit the enemy ship several times before any missile would even leave the box at shadowing range. At shadowing range the old USS Missouri would probably slaughter anything in the water today regardless of what newfangled missiles they're carrying.

Uh oh . The formerly Great Britain & China are finally on the same page now. Officially.
Unofficially, they were on the same page on HK. On Kashmir too they're on the same page. Same on Xinjiang, perhaps. But definitely an unanimity in handling Mirpuris in UK. Consider the recent London stabbings.

It's a factual statement. Lots of countries claiming sovereignty over islands they've never held based on mere proximity. By comparison, even China's claims are more rational, since they at least have ancient historically-based claims. What next? Russia claiming Japan?
India should take a hard stand on the issue. It is in our backyard.
You're going to take a stand against the US and UK navies? Good luck with that, let us know how it goes.

Hence, very soon we're going to see a piquant situation of 2 of the P-5s reject UNCLOS's ruling. Isn't UK a signatory to UNCLOS, Paddy? Why, when the ruling comes wouldn't it be just lovely?

It isn't a UNCLOS ruling though. It's based on absolutely no legal document whatsoever, it's merely opinion.

You can back the bumming of a cow if you want, but it doesn't mean that others will cede to your wishes.

You can bet the last ounce of your birdbrain, Paddy, that UNCLOS will be the next port of call for the Government of Mauritius with India's full backing. Its as sure as the night following the sun will never set on the British Empire lullaby, you've been taught in public schools and brought up on.

Besides I'd love to see the Royal Navy square up with the IN in the IN's backyard , considering you completely annihilated the Iranian Navy when they seized one of your little boats.

God show mercy on the Queen and her boats, then. Yanks won't hold RN's flank in that case. US needs India now more than ever.
And if the judgement is against UK, India will for sure act to protect it's interests.

UK is constantly poking into our internal matters especially that jihadi corbyn and BeeBeeShit.
If jihadi corbyn becomes the PM , expect relations with US/India to go down while Pakistan /Iran/Hamas to go up

The US has the base there, so it won't just be the RN dip shit.

And UNCLOS dictates what EEZ you can claim around land territories, not whether you can claim an island that you've never owned ever.

The US has the base there and you're the one with a rising China on your border.

Mauritius Brings UNCLOS Arbitration Against The United Kingdom Over The Chagos Archipelago | ASIL

Point to the law within UNCLOS that gives them any rights over the island.

France is closer to Cyprus than the Chagos Islands are to Mauritius and the population of the islands are 95% British/American, so guess who's going to win a vote - see UN law on right to self determination.

Dude, voting doesn't happen amongst occupiers. The same legality which voids any voting in PoJK- the natives have been displaced by state enforced displacement policy of the Pakistanis; Chagos too is similar.

Only the Chagossians will vote, not the Brits( or their American bosses) who made a brand new colony by dismembering it's former colony Mauritius after independence.

Chagossians can exercise their Right to Return. And u know whos gon win d vote, right?

UK should end Chagos Islands control - UN
