You bet this will.

Probably this is too early as of now, but if the West follows through its sanctions threat, Russia will probably be completely cut off. If that happens, its naive to expect India to be granted any sort of CAATSA waiver.

No to the first one, maybe yes, maybe no to the second.

It depends on how well we can stave off pressure from the US. Plus how well the US is able to compensate us for the loss of Russian supplies, if it happens. Worst case, if we get hit with CAATSA, we will have to ignore the US and keep buying from Russia. We have created mechanisms that allow us to circumvent CAATSA sanctions, it has been applied for the S-400 deal too.

Upgrade deals will not be affected by CAATSA. India should be able to stave off pressure for more S-400, Su-57 and IL-276, because the US doesn't have alternatives for these, plus all three predate CAATSA. But brand new potential deals for S-500/550, PAK-DP etc can be stopped.

Hopefully the Ukrainians don't surrender. Make Russian losses higher. Maybe fire a few of anti ship missiles on its Cruiser and sink it.

Let's think from our perspective. The more the war prolongs the higher the import bill for crude oil . Then there's the ban on key ingredients for fertilizers. Let's hope this ends quickly.

The damage has been done. And it won't prolong beyond a week anyway. Ukraine is not as capable as defence force. Repercussions will be there now.

So its better to hope that Ukrainians fight off.

The rupee-ruble trade is more than enough. The Russians are taking the risk for India as well.

Anyway, I don't think CAATSA really affects India as much as people think. Unlike other smaller countries, the US understands India is working on going indigenous, and purchases from Russia or anyone else after a certain point will only be for emergency needs or stopgap. We are already headed that way. They are not going to ruin relations for that.

We've no idea of the extent of territory the Russians desire. In all probability it's the complete East Ukraine , then cutting a swathe in the South , South west to join Transinstria the breakaway province of Moldava , effectively reducing Ukraine to a land locked entity. If that's the case , we've no idea how long will the invasion last & resistance will only prolong the issue.

They are expecting it to devolve into a low level insurgency after major operations are completed. The sooner this happens, the better.

Can't tell if Dimran's visit to Moscow was deliberate in order to send a message to Washington or it's usual Pakjabi incompetence. Knowing Paxtan's precarious position , It's the latter But trust them to spin it into the former.

Russia has made a Simple Calculation.

It is that What if they do nothing Now and Let Ukraine Join NATO.

And then Ukraine also acquires more Conventional weaponry including long range Missiles

Look at Ukraine Russia Border
And the Seas adjacent to Ukraine and Russia

Once NATO gets a foot hold in Ukraine , Russia gets cut off from its Southern Territories

Hence this war is absolutely Necessary

Let NATO try to establish a Base in Ukraine after this war

Once Ukraine is levelled ,it will forget about NATO

Russia tried for many years to persuade both NATO And Ukraine to stop their expansion

But NATO loves to needle Russia
