Ukraine - Russia Conflict

Russia loses 46,500 troops in a single month:

An average of around 1,500 Russian solders were killed or injured per day in October, UK Chief of the Defence Staff Tony Radakin told the BBC.

An episode of combat use of the Russian 152-mm self-propelled gun 2S43 "Malva" in the Kursk region of Russia. The self-propelled gun "Malva" is mounted on the chassis BAZ-6910-027 "Voshchina". Judging by the video, the artillery gun used is still 2A64, it is planned to replace it with a longer-range one.

An episode of the movement of a column and landing of troops of the Russian BMP-2 in Novoivanovka, Kursk region of Russia. The BMP-2 as part of a column consisting of a T-72 tank and five BMP-2s broke through to Ukrainian positions in the settlements of Zeleny Shlyakh and Novoivanovka. The column split into two parts, during the movement of the column one of the tanks was hit by a strike, presumably by a drone, it is not clear from the video how much the tank was damaged. The video shows the landing of troops from the Russian BMP-2 in the village of Novoivanovka and the attack of a Ukrainian grenade launcher from behind a building, as noted in the video. The BMP-2 was attacked twice, the first grenade launcher strike was tangential, the second grenade launcher shot into the ground. The BMP-2 was not damaged and landed troops.

France Doubles The Mirage 2000-5F "Full Support" Jets It Is Sending To Ukraine

In June 2024, French President Marcon made the surprising statement that France would be supplying French-made Mirage 2000-5 jets to Ukraine and that these would be arriving before the end of the year. Now, more details are coming to light, including how many will be handed over and updates on the expected delivery timetable. According to new reporting, an initial six Dassault Mirage 2000-5Fs will be transferred to Ukraine in the first half of 2025.

Six French Mirage 2000-5s for Ukraine in 1st quarter 2025

It has been reported that France will soon deliver six Mirage 2000-5F fighter jets to Ukraine with a full support package. These will arrive in the first half of 2025 after Ukrainian pilots and maintainers complete their training. The fighter jets will include a full support package.

In all, France expects to supply Ukraine with around 15 Mirage 2000-5 fighter jets. One French publication, Legendaires, reported that France may eventually supply up to 20 Mirages to Ukraine. New reports confirmed earlier reporting that these jets will be configured for a ground attack role and will carry air-to-ground munitions as well as improved electronic warfare systems.

Meanwhile, the French Air Force is upgrading its fighter jets to the advanced Dassault Rafale fighter jet (which has recently seen considerable success in the export market). As of 31 December 2023, 28 Mirage 2000-5Fs remained in service in the French Armed Forces.

Western fighter jets donated to Ukraine

Currently, the Ukrainian fighter jet air force is barely active. This is made worse by having pilots outside the country training on new fighter jet platforms (meaning they are not currently in Ukraine flying what aircraft they still have).

The Ukrainian Air Force has suffered massive attritional losses through the war - although it has received some replacement MiG-29s from Poland and Slovakia as well as reactivated some of its own non-operational airframes. It is unclear how many operational fighter jets Ukraine has at the moment, but they are mostly operating far behind the lines in an air defense role.

The first F-16s have already been delivered to Ukraine (with one lost); however, these remain in low numbers, and it is likely Ukraine will be cautious about how it uses them as it integrates them into its Air Force and battle planning.

Sweden is widely expected to donate 15-30 of its older Saab Gripen C/Ds. Ukrainian pilots are known to have trained on Gripens, and the fighter jets appeared on a recent Swedish aid package for Ukraine (as funding for the Swedish Air Force to purchase new parts instead of cannibalizing old Gripens for parts). There is also speculation that Eurofighters (possibly British) could be donated to Ukraine.

For its part, the Russian Air Force has been perhaps the most surprising chapter of the invasion of Ukraine. Despite being numerically large and theoretically modern, it was unable to pick Ukraine's air defense apart (something the Israeli Air Force claims to have done against Iran on a single night with no air losses). This meant that the Russian Air Force could not establish air superiority and has been mostly forced to operate in a support role.

Footage of attacks by Russian kamikaze drones "Lancet-51" on two Ukrainian tanks Leopard 2A4, made in Germany, has been published. The tanks were used by the 33rd separate mechanized brigade of the Ukrainian army, technical information is on the channel. The tanks were attacked in the Kurakhovsky direction, near the settlement "Dachny", possibly the settlement "Dalniy". As a result of the attacks by the "Lancet" drones, both tanks were damaged, the extent of the damage is unclear, it is also unknown what happened to the crews.

French are either absolutely optimistic or brutally smart.
