It was a political reason not to go in full in Afganistan.huh, there is a place called afghanistan.
That's my take on it too. They lost some ground around Izium in recent weeks but made some around Severodonetsk. But it's like 1 dead soldier and 3 wounded for every metre they advance on average and there are many metres in Ukraine. And then they lose ground elsewhere too, like the whole of Kharkiv area pretty much.
It's just cruel now. Someone needs to remove Putin, withdraw and try and make peace with the EU. That's the best way forward for Russia right now. They've made a bad mistake and killing even more of their own people isn't going to fix it.
Yes, the Ukrainians made sure they didn't let the Russians retreat cleanly around Kyiv, so that they couldn't deploy elsewhere. They attacked them on the way out. Possibly, but recently Russian has been shelling up North of Sumy, probably to try and distract them from doing just that. When Russians declared retreat from the north and refocusing on the east, I thought Russians will bring all of its might to the east and smash through Izium and encircle the Ukrainian troops in the east. Turns out that the troops withdrawn from the north were severely depleted and they couldn't do anything. Now with kviv and Kharkiv secured, more Ukrainian military resources will be deployed in the east & Russia won't be able to deliver any decisive blow.
Russians need to bring a 100,000 strong fresh force with better logistics & punch through combat exhausted Ukrainian troops to encircle Ukrainian forces in the east (similar to Operation Uranus when fresh Russian armies broken through the flanks of exhausted German/Romanian forces in Stalingrad). With the existing forces, they won't be able to do it. But i am not sure Russia will commit more troops to Ukraine now. It seems like the current strategy is to hold on till next winter and use Gas as leverage to blackmail Europe and secure a face saving deal.
India is never going to be a threat to the chicoms in a conventional war when the vast majority of their weapon systems are Russian. Indian military needs a complete overhaul if they want to be a conventional threat to the chicoms.![]()

US Seeks to Wean India From Russia Weapons With Arms-Aid Package
- Potential $500 million deal would put India near Israel, Egypt
- India is the largest buyer of Russian made military hardware
The US is preparing a military aid package for India to deepen security ties and reduce the country’s dependence on Russian weapons, people familiar with the matter said.
The package under consideration would include foreign military financing of as much as $500 million, according to one person, which would make India one of the largest recipients of such aid behind Israel and Egypt. It’s unclear when the deal would be announced, or what weapons would be included.
The effort is part of a much larger initiative by President Joe Biden’s administration to court India as a long-term security partner, despite its reluctance to criticize Russia for its invasion of Ukraine, according to a senior US official who asked not to be named.
Washington wants to be seen as a reliable partner for India across the board, the official added, and the administration is working with other nations including France to make sure Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government has the equipment it needs. While India is already diversifying its military platforms away from Russia, the US wants to help make that happen faster, the official said.
