The TL;DR version is that the best choice for the Russians would be to retreat across the Dnipro while they still hold Nova Kakhovka, and establish a new line of defense here. But since this best option means abandoning Kherson, the Russians will instead most likely commit a tactical suicide by attempting to hold on to the west bank of the Dnipro, until they're put in a cauldron where artillery can hit them from three directions, with zero safe spot.

Ukrainains are also suffering massive casaulties, but whole western media is pro-ukrainian so they aren't talking/writing about this.

The Ukrainians have to fight though, Russia does not. Nobody attacked Russia.
