Ukraine - Russia Conflict

The Russian army is hardly advancing on the thirteenth day of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. However, bombing by planes and missiles remains intense, especially on the cities of Karkhiv and Soumy in the north-east, and Izum in the east.

Russian forces made some gains on Tuesday north-east of Kiev, hoping to launch an assault within two or three days.

Ukraine's four horsemen
This apparent bogging down of the Russian army could be explained by the need, before a new general offensive, for regrouping and supplies: logistical convoys are the priority target of Ukrainian ambushes and supplies of fuel, rations and ammunition seem to have been underestimated at the start of the conflict.

Added to this is the effect of what Jason Lyall, an American professor of conflict history, calls Ukraine's "four horsemen": the Javelin (American anti-tank missile), the Stinger (anti-aircraft), the raspoutitsa (field mud caused by the spring thaw) and TikTok (a popular social network in Ukraine). In addition to this arsenal, there are the Turkish Bayraktar drones and, more recently, the Swedish NLaw and AT4 short-range missiles.

Already a fifth of the losses in Afghanistan
If the situation on the ground is evolving slowly, the losses in men and heavy weapons seem very intense, according to counts made from testimonies on the ground and authenticated and geolocated videos. At least 145 of the 1,000 tanks deployed have been destroyed or captured, as well as some 20 fighter planes and a dozen helicopters.

According to American sources, up to 4,500 Russian soldiers were killed in twelve days, and 6,000 according to European sources (i.e. a quarter of the total number of deaths during the Soviet intervention in Afghanistan between 1979 and 1989). Moscow has acknowledged 498 deaths as of 2 March and Kiev claims to have killed 12,000 soldiers. The number of wounded is probably four times higher than the number of deaths on each side.

Not surprisingly everything is fine on the Ukranian side . No losses of arms , platforms or men. In short they're on the verge of winning the war . It's only a question of when .

No, Ukrainians are enduring the aggression as best they can, and it is much more difficult to make assessments because civilians and soldiers are often mixed together, many civilians having volunteered to help the army. Overall, the Ukrainians have probably lost twice as much as the Russians.

Why do many Indians want to join Ukraine’s fight against Russia?

An Indian student in Ukraine has joined the military pushback against Russia. Reports say there are many others in the queue.

Sainikhesh Ravichandran, a 21-year-old student from the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, is, according to a report in The Kyiv Independent, now a part of the International Legion. The paramilitary force of volunteers has been put together by president Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s government to fight Russian forces.

The Kyiv Independent reported yesterday (March 8) that individuals from the UK, US, Lithuania, Sweden, and India have joined the force. The Zelenskyy government has created a website for volunteers to sign up, and, according to Ukrainian foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba, nearly 20,000 foreign nationals from 52 countries already had by March 6. Officially, India has a neutral position in the war, calling for peace on either side.

For India’s Ravichandran, a student of the National Aerospace University in Kharkiv, joining the International Legion has been a long-time dream come true, even if it means breaking the law in India.

Who is Sainikhesh Ravichandran?

The young student traces his roots back to Coimbatore, a large city in Tamil Nadu. His LinkedIn profile shows that he joined the institute in Kharkiv in 2018.

With him going incommunicado after the war broke out, Ravichandran’s parents reached out to the Indian embassy in Ukraine, The News Minute reported. They also alerted officials of their suspicion that their son may have joined the Ukrainian forces.

These suspicions arose from the fact that Ravichandran always had a passion for the military, the police said. He wanted to join the Indian Army, but was rejected twice as he wasn’t tall enough, The News Minute reported. A team of India’s central bureau of investigation has now visited the parents.

Indian law forbids its citizens from participating in military action in other countries.

Other Indians want to join Ukraine

Yet, up to 500 Indian citizens, including defence services veterans, have signed up to join the International Legion, unnamed Indian diplomatic sources told The Hindu newspaper yesterday (March 8).

India has also objected to a tweet by the Ukrainian embassy in Delhi, which put out a call for Indians to join the International Legion in its fight against Russia. The legion, through the embassy’s Twitter thread, had said that it had received reports of hundreds of Indians looking to join the force.

The tweet was later deleted after the Indian government contacted the embassy, the Economic Times newspaper reported yesterday (March 8).

You can sorta understand westenr folks joining since many of them are brainwashed fools that don't know they are doing the will of the globalist. You can understand veterans joining since many of them encountered Russian's in Syria sometimes playing bumper cars with them in their MRAPS and even having firefights. But what are these Indian's beef with Russian's? They didn't grow up hating Russians being taught in school they are the enemy like here in the US and many western schools.

Yo wassup wit dat? randomradio do you have a theory?

Money, many times more than they can earn in India, and immigration access to Europe.

Some looking for jobs also get trafficked into armed groups, happens in the Middle East.

Not really, some folks likes arms & ammunition more than anything. They choose such ventures.
