Can you please explain as to why Rouble is trading at a higher value today that 2014.What we have there is a classic case of selective/misleading news:
Russia Inflation Rate
Inflation Rate in Russia increased to 9.90 percent in January from 9.50 percent in December of 2024. This page provides - Russia Inflation Rate - actual values, historical data, forecast, chart, statistics, economic calendar and news.tradingeconomics.com

The apparent exchange rate strength of the rouble is no boon for Russia, they are paying monumental interest rates to maintain that exchange rate and they still have huge inflation. Additionally oil is priced in $s regardless of whether it's sold in roubles, yuan, rupee or sheep. This mean that Russia receives less roubles per dollar per barrel. So whilst the price of oil is $90/bbl now vs $80/bbl pre war, because there are 60 roubles per $ now instead of 80, Russia only receives the rouble equivalent of what it would have got for a $67.5/bbl price pre war. Russian energy sales pay government wages and war costs in roubles, so they now have less roubles to pay the same wages and greater costs, and the wages will be worth less too because of the above chart.![]()

Thousands of Pro-Russian terrorists in the German city of #Cologne took to the streets demanding the government to stop supporting Ukraine and to open both Nord Stream 1 and 2! pic.twitter.com/0iEMIf7OUm
These are not necessarily pro-Russian protests. They can quite clearly be understood as common sense protests .@SamRamani2

People do not want to pay through the nose for their energy and do not want to support an inwinnable war, one instigated as a proxy war the US/ NATO. https://t.co/SddY06z4xC
It isn't. In 2013 there was 30 roubles/$ at 5.5% interest rate and 6% inflation, now there is 62 roubles/$ at 8% interests and 16% inflation. That's what Putin has gained through being a dickhead. Can you please explain as to why Rouble is trading at a higher value today that 2014.
And in the EU there is a voice to it, in Russia they have 16% inflation but adding voices to it leaves you in prison or falling out a hospital window.Last tweet sum it well for me, even staying as neutral or sympathetic to Ukraine cause there comes a time where this war hit common people far away from Ukraine so much that some will go onto protest. Not judging by right or wrong moral right etc etc, just that there should a be voice to it.

The Chris Hedges Report: Ukraine and the crisis of media censorship
Throughout the Ukraine war, press in the US and most of Europe have mindlessly parroted the opinions of a ruling elite and overseen a public discourse that is often unhinged from the real world.therealnews.com

Putin approves new foreign policy doctrine based on 'Russian World'
President Vladimir Putin on Monday approved a new foreign policy doctrine based around the concept of a "Russian World", a notion that conservative ideologues have used to justify intervention abroad in support of Russian-speakers.
