LockMart is really obsessed with diamond wings. For a high altitude, high speed fighter, Delta should have better, IMO.

Or are they looking for subsonic maneuverability too? Hmm...

They are going for a fighter that doesn't need vertical stabs.

The era where your maneuverability or stability is determined only by your planform & airfoils was already half-dead with advent of FBW. This takes it a step further.

I don't know what techs are being employed here - there were studies & patents back in the day of using plasma discharge to effect aerodynamics, without effecting change in RCS (which would happen if you operate flaps & stabs on a regular aircraft, even F-22).

There is a real possibility going forward that one could completely separate an aircraft's need to balance it's airframe design between stealth & aerodynamics. The airframe can lean much further toward the stealth spectrum, and rely on unconventional techs to fill the gaps in aerodynamics that creates. So in essence, the planform of a wing can be designed for stealth (trapezoidal/diamond), and yet have the aerodynamic properties of a delta.

Bottom line is...it's too early to judge it's flight characteristics.

It doesn't need to be maneuverable, sunshine, this platform is going to be a long range killer and an ISR/EW aircraft. But you and the French will somehow still think Rafale and SU-30MKI+++ is better.

Mike "Pako" Benitez has already confirmed that it's going to be more maneuverable than expected. And he knows a thing or two about the NGAD program unlike you.

Long range killing can only take place when a first rate airforce meets a lower-tier one. Against peer level adversary, long range swatting is nothing but a pipe-dream. USAF chose YF-22 over YF-23, even though the latter had better stealth because YF-22 had TVC for better slow speed maneuverability.

I personally think that 6th gen planes will have better all-aspect stealth, very high ceiling and cruise speed, very very high endurance along with matching 4th/4.5/5th gen fighter basic maneuverability. Fingers crossed...

The version being built will be agile. The one with less agility for the China front seems to have been cancelled.
