The above article makes two things clear - That India is the largest producer of milk and that it has one of the largest co operarive dairy farm organizations in the world if not the largest. All of its products are household names. Yes they're that popular. In fact World Bank has recommended this model to many countries as an example worth emulating.

Now having educated you on the finer points of cattle farming in India, let's get to what you've highlighted which is what happens when you mix religion with economics. That's what the current government has done. Though , it needs to be pointed out that the anti cow slaughter legislation in place since independence certainly did a lot towards helping achieve the goal of encouraging dairy farming and helping provide millions of marginal farmers a sustainable livelihood. The current government came up with even more stringent laws which in turn has upset the rural economy a bit.

Which makes me wonder why hasn't Ireland capitalised on all those cattle they call their country men. Oh wait a minute! While electing a fag who happens to be a half Indian as their Taoiseach , so as not to burden themselves with intelligent matters they went on to become a tax haven attracting many companies to become head quartered there. That's why you've such a healthy GDP both per capita and nominal. Well, all the best. Guess it's a matter of time before some other tiny European nation beats you at your own game and the Irish get back to doing what they do best - potato farming and cattle rustling.

Around 40 - 50% English sold their dream to the Welsh , Scotsmen & the Irish to form the UK under their Hegemony. Around 25-30% Prussians under Bismarck unified most of the Germanic speaking states into the state of Germany under the House of Hohenzollern. Throw in Italian reunification too under the House of Savoy.
