India’s air force says it shot down its own helicopter

Associated PressOctober 4, 2019

NEW DELHI (AP) — India’s air force said Friday it accidently shot down one of its own helicopters as it engaged Pakistani fighter planes in an aerial confrontation in Indian-controlled Kashmir in February.

Air Chief Rakesh Singh Bhaduria said “it was a big mistake.”

Six air force personnel were killed in the crash, which occurred close to the airport on the outskirts of the region's main city of Srinagar.

Bhaduria said the air force has completed an investigation of the incident and is taking punitive action against two officers.

The Press Trust of India news agency said a surface-to-air missile shot down the Mi-17 aircraft in Kashmir on Feb. 27.

India said its fighter planes hit a militant camp on a heavily forested hilltop in Balakot inside Pakistan on Feb. 26. It said the camp held members of a militant group responsible for a suicide car bombing in Kashmir that killed 40 Indian paramilitary soldiers.

Pakistan said its air force shot down an Indian fighter jet a day later in an aerial confrontation and took an Indian pilot prisoner. He was later released.

Slowly things will come out of F-16 loss from American side itself.
This reprimand is for losing a F16 to a Mig21 lol. Its a blot on F16s legacy

Some twitter sources are reporting that Pakistan may have thrown parts of shot down F16 in a furnace to hide PAF failure. But if not burned, point being they were disposed off unceremoniously. If true then it's truly deplorable act to bravery of machine and pilot who died in combat.

That's the standard operating procedure to treat braves in Pakistan, from civilian to military every coward is celebrated at the expense of rare brave and courageous people who die unacknowledged and unknown. This has become their national character now.

That's the only way of keeping the legacy of The Armed forces of Pakistan......Where else in the world an armed force tells its govt (elected representatives and the governing body) that it cant disclose its causalities? They have to keep their bakths happy and would love to be worshipped by them

Mere speculation and conspiracy theories.

Well, they cant hide Americans and one fine day, they will reveal it with a big blow to Paks

Who organized this? Mainstreaming by giving platform to fool like Swahney and putting him on same stage as ACM Dhanoa?

And if that is not enough you put that hysterical woman Fair too with him?! Seems more like typical news channel panel where a maulana and Baba sits and scream for TRP.
This is a welcome reality check to India by Dr. Fair... I have issues with her analysis of the F-16 kill, and her default assumption that people in Nowshera can't learn two languages.. I also welcome her remarks regarding balakot hit.. India officially said that hundreds of terrorists were hit in balakot, when we had no proof to present, so the next time India makes a claim I hope we back it up with empirical data, or stop making such claims. GOI should have more than electoral base gratification in mind.

Great ask these folks to pass on some pics of shot down F-16

How can three supposed impact points be in a straight line, along an edge. The probability of that happening is very very remote. Looks more like a pixelation error. But, GOI likes overanalyzing useful idiots, who take on the burden of providing proof upon themselves, so that Modi does not have to bother...
Bunker buster are penetrated vertically on impact...

How can three supposed impact points not be in a straight line, along the edge? You are yourself saying "very very remote", not impossible, that should tell you that there is possibility there.

Aside, @nair @Ashwin Mr. Just because some people's political or personal opinion is not echoed by ex-defense or civil authority, or even a normal civilian, derogatory words should not be used against them to score brownie points.

@Sulla84 is calling kargil war hero Ex IAF pilot Sameer Joshi an idiot who in poster's view is taking burden of providing proof upon himself. Just for example, he is also Paris award show winner for his in-depth analysis of Arial situational awareness and warfare in Syrian airspace since ISIS offensive days. Calling such informed & experienced war hero offensive words and equating with online trolls requires firm & adequete response to maintain the civility in the forum. Thank you.

buddy, do not teach those who dont want to be taught. You can show a way to a blind but you can never show a path to a person who has eyes and decides not to believe what his eyes show him.
On this very forum, very recently we posted a picture of the accuracy of excaliber round. Now these very peiople will say that the white cross was painted after the round had impacted. How do you convince such people. They have very limited knowledge of even how GPS works and why the errors in a GPS in a particular place will always be in one direction only and not in multiple directions.

Bunker buster are penetrated vertically on impact...
Assuming a CEP of 3 meter for SPICE 2000, there is no way(very very low probability)all three of them would have impacted in a straight line.. even if entry is vertical, it's just mathematics. It's called "circular" error probability for a reason

You are wrong and completely wrong. Even dumb bombs fired from same height by one single aircraft will fall in a straight line. This happen due to similar drag profile, similar atmospheric conditions including drift due to wing. This effects each bomb in exact same manner. Even after being released from 30k feet, all bombs will fall in a straight line. Watch the videos of Viet war carpet bombing by B-52s and you will understand what I mean.
Regarding a GPS guided bomb, all bombs released from similar height and same release parameters will suffer exactly same kind of drift and errors. What you have failed to notice is that these bombs could have impacted the target with near zero difference between them. The separation between the bombs is on account of the slope of the roof because the direction of release for all the bombs was same.
