Air Battle over Kashmir : MiG-21 Bison shoots down F-16

IMO what IAF requires is a chief / think tank who consistently monitors the situation who would have bought new version of R-77 when PAF got ARMRAAM in 2010 hence keeping the edge over them, who would have pressured the govt. to buy hawks much earlier for training.

Who told you that R-77 are not upto the job? Media?

When Germany was unified, western world got to know the tech of Russians. They were shocked. R-77 till date remains the best WVRAAM. For a WVRAAM, its not the IR seeker range that matters but the off boresite angle followed by the end game maneuverability. And R-77 with its forward canards beats everything the western world has.

Guess so lol

Anyways a birde in not so many words told me

Considering that it was IAFs mandate more or less

Army it seemed on that faithfull day inadvertently got gifted with lots of floating data.

Its a mix of half informed media, trolls on the other side who gleefully claim - "F-16s bested Su-30s" and the biggest irritant for our population - the visible downing of the MiG vs the F-16 which still Pakistan has been able to shroud.

Add to it ACM Dhanoa's comments that we could have done better if we had Rafale, left many to doubt IAF's current arsenal.

Whats the probability that Indian intelligence have any pics of the downed F-16 in its possession, room sources across the loc?

Slim. It would have scored PR victories at so many levels that it would have been worth leaking, despite hurting the "Rafale or we die" narrative.
It's a size of a bus, in that hilly terrain with thick forest at most places how hard is it to hide a bus? And when their army can reach within hours cleaning up the site not much you can do about it.

Now that's interesting

As a general let's say you see your enemy occupy a position which is untenable in the long run and right now you are in a position where you are trying to strengthen your flank under constant probing attack.

What would you do ?

Dig in and strength your flanks and then wait for the opportune moment when the untenable becomes untenable

Or rush head along just because you see a possible opening and in the bargain " na iderka na uderka "

I find no difference between military operations and political moves , what differs is our cloud of perception.

Incase you misunderstand my motives for asking the question , for clarification
My only loyalty is to my god's to my temples and my ancestors aka Bharat

And last my point being there is no point in giving relevance to the irrelevant , no point making martyrs out them which i am sure you know they will become . The old guard will make sure of that and who knows many ex military will join in the chorus for whatever reasons.

For the bachelors
India is like life itself you don't know whether you are in heaven or in hell or inbetween

For the married man
India is like marriage one moment you are in heaven and next straight to hell and rest inbetween

As they say an apple does not fall far from its tree

Guess who is the father of Rahul Kanwal of India Today

I am frankly surprised that our military managed so long with the type of people in its ranks

May our flag keep flying in Siachen

So, did pak SAMs really engage mirage 2000s during balakot ? Because, never heard about it before..

No there were no SAMs in that area

ACM Dhanoa said recently that ISI did not
Tell PAF about Balakot .

Hence there were no " Terminal defences " in that area

I remember vstol comment about pakistani pilots.he said noman is in grave six feet below.paf showed them in tv program.now nobody knows about abhinandan wingman.i hope he is alive and kicking.india have to answer many questions, from balakot bombing to f-16, from unsatisfying radar data to denial of any jet shot down.i am worried about wingman of abhinandan.

This is called a strawman argument. The existence of a wingman or his survival was never in question. To consider it as one, you first need to provide plausible evidence. Like we presented on the downing of an F-16. You can poke the strawman as long as you want but the fact remains that even the ISPR corroborated second pilot evidence.

So let's hope the dead may remain dead for the sake of your own sanity.

There is definitely no NLI up occupying those mountains. (Musharraf even went on BBC on the record saying it was just "aggressive patrolling" at most that the Indians also do)

.....few months later....

.... uh, yeah...actually there were. Scratch away previous statements, never happened!

....few years later....

...actually there were tons of them. Nishaan-e-haider and medals galore! Our martyrs!

======

^^ I saw this happen pretty much in real time....its not quite the same explaining to younger folk about how this went down.

This needed 100s and 100s of them getting offed too (And thus have the final family numbers to hold their miserable fauj to account, something the East Pakistanis never got in the end at the scale needed)..... so 1 or two holding up a commensurately larger water body of prestige/loss of face/izzat (esp in this day and age of social media) is gonna be far more shielded too.

Its an issue of the (proven) 1000 year / 1 week buffer ratio having lot of volume underneath to fester all kind of things (with so much riding on fauj with country model). Within that, the camel must handle the straw.

Pakistanis can believe any sh$t in the world. sometime back I saw a short film called Sherdil dogfight 3. I saw a JF-17 outclimb M2K. I saw MICA missing the target and unable to follow even a 8G limit aircraft. I saw M2K firing the guns and miss the targets and best part was that JF-17 was out turning a M2K.
AFAIK, the weapon aiming computers of M2K are so good that if you have your gun piper on the target or CCIP as we call it, the bullets will hit exactly at the spot.
