Akash Series Surface to Air Missile System

I think it's a deal in progress, cause if at all such a sale was made it would have atleast figured in the annual books of BDL or DRDO.

And given that Sudan also operates HQ16, and then goes to buy Akash, it shows pretty much that even our Soviet Era missiles from Veer Class Missile boats won't be shot down by new Pakistani LY80 , a version of HQ16.

Akash-NG will be having AESA Seekers at some point.

Ok there's a chance it's not a Aakash NG AESA seeker but that of of Astra Mk2

If u notice seeker Aperture dimensions are not given which aroused my suspicion
It's lock on range of 13 Km for a 5 m2 target is given though.

So i did some calculation & it turn out that for a 0.003 m2 target it's around 2 km.

now guess which other Ku band AESA missile seeker has exactly the same specifications

Both QRSAM & Akash NG range ( 30 Km ) is basically same...only difference is in Flight altitude which is 10 Km in case of QRSAM & 20 Km in case of Akash NG ( officially ).
Akash NG should be in league of Buk M3 not QRSAM. Is there more to story here ? Earlier it was reported that NG range is 70 Km which was later lower down to 30 Km.
It's doesn't make any sense to have two different SAM systems for basically same role.

#DRDOUpdates | DRDO hands over Authority Holding Sealed Particulars of Akash Weapon System (Indian Army Version) to Missile Systems Quality Assurance Agency

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) handed over Authority Holding Sealed Particulars (AHSP) of Akash Weapon System (Indian Army Version) to Missile Systems Quality Assurance Agency (MSQAA) in Hyderabad on December 03, 2022. The handing over was held at Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) which, as a nodal agency, has designed and developed the Akash weapon system. The Technical Specification & Quality Document and the drawing of complete weapon system elements were sealed and handed over by Project Akash to MSQAA as part of AHSP transfer.

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh has congratulated DRDO, Indian Army and the industry, terming the AHSP transfer as a landmark event. He exuded confidence that this would go a long way in fulfilling the requirement of services.

Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and Chairman DRDO Dr Samir V Kamat congratulated the Project Akash team for first AHSP transfer from Missile cluster to MSQAA for such a complex system involving missile and multiple ground systems. He said, the transfer process will enable the roadmap for future missile systems, which are under production.

Akash is the first state-of-the-art indigenous surface-to-air missile system which has been with Armed Forces for nearly a decade defending the Indian skies and providing national security. It is inducted by Indian Army and Indian Air Force with order value worth Rs 30,000 crore, which is one of the largest single system orders for indigenous missile system.

Apart from DRDL, a number of other DRDO labs are involved in the development of the system. These include Research Centre Imarat; Electronics & Radar Development Establishment; Research & Development Establishment (Engineers); Integrated Test Range; Armament Research & Development Establishment; High Energy Materials Research Laboratory and Vehicles Research Development Establishment. The systems are produced by Bharat Dynamics Limited, Bharat Electronics Limited, Larsen & Toubro, Tata Advanced Systems Limited, Electronics Corporation of India Limited, BEML Limited along with Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and other industries partners.

why they mention which users will field it?

Akash prime order very close to realisation in next 1 year as per BEL ie they expect it to happen anytime. Must have got good color on that.

Dual pulse for upto 30 kms doesn't make sense. There's more to it than meets the eye
There seems to be both single-pulse and dual-pulse variants. May be the first one coming up is single-pulse and next one will be dual pulse and then another one with dual-pulse and a booster just like Barak family.

But the interesting thing is even under heavy enemy jamming thanks to EOTS guidance it still will be capable of shooting at all targets including VLO types.

Never look at range.

Look at altitude. Although I would have preferred 18km, which would pretty much only allow things like Mig25 to be safe. 14km is fine too.
If they're being economical with the truth about the range guess the same applies to altitude too .

Never heard of a single pulse Akash NG but then again I'm not following the program closely.

That dual pulse with the booster would probably be the only version & the reason they're not hyping the range & altitude could be cause they don't want to offend the Israelis for all you know .

The Baraks aren't exactly the most economical MR SAMs out there . If & when we buy them we're obliged to get some of those parts from Israel as per our agreement with them apart from a certain minimum qty both sides would've committed to .

I reckon we've ordered our quota of what we've committed . Just as Israel has gone it's own way we have too . Akash NG may well be our answer to MR-SAM / Barak -8 & it's subsequent iterations . Just my 2 cents .
