Some of the projects in defence have become life time employment providers. With govt taking no serious action the trend continues. If they dont deliver on some projects even after big time over runs project leaders/directors should be sent packing home. In terms of national security its going to cost us lot of lives and more financial burden in the long run.

Doesnt look like there is any thing sensitive here, there is nothing to be compromised on the engine. They can give the engine technical parameters to private companies and ask to deliver on it.

This thing was always remain as an issue from the day one.PMO must look in to it and put some accountability . Need to complete this project within time .
Did you see how much the Kalibr missile was useful for the Russians for SEAD operation in Ukraine ?
If there is a conflict this system would be the mainstay for initial operation.

That happens every where in India , two main reasons
1) talented ppl cant go out and start companies on their own as raising resources & capital is next to nil as we are a risk averse society.
2) Not many companies in pvt will be working on such technologies which can absorb these ppl and put them to better use.

Govt by making drdo a monopoly has ended up destroying chances of any better product by the local industry.

If ppl have options they will walk out, go else where, already we are losing a lot of talent to MNC's and ppl moving abroad. Instead of creating better atmosphere for local industry and reward our own talent we are continuously perpetuating existing system.

That was IAF version and without warhead, most likely a training/test prototype, you wonder if it got misfired from captive trials during flight or something? A deployed canister launched missile would do that?

May be this 650-700 km is an upgrade. As per Brahmos co-director any increase in range beyond 400-450 km will be done by increase in speed of Brahmos. Moreover, January 2022 test press release also mentioned Brahmos with extended range and improved performance. Brahmos ex CEO also hinted that speed of brahmos may increase to 3.5 Mach by 2020-2022 & ultimately to Mach 4.5.

If they cross Mach 3 they're no longer supersonic missiles are they ?

What if this updated version did 700 kms at Mach 5? Is that really a upgrade or not? Just sayin 😉

Still supersonic upto Mach 5. Brahmos 2 will be hypersonic, i.e., above Mach 5 capable. This current Brahmos's engine can't go over Mach 5, despite all the upgrades.

Ah yes ! I got confused between the transition from super sonic to hyper sonic flight where the ramjet switches to scramjet .
 
Upgrade is a term used for media. A lot of work seems to be on indigenising many parts of the missile. It has gone up to 68%, likely to be fixed there. Brahmos NG on other hand will be 100% Indian sub systems according to BAPL. So for that, you need to get loads of sub system tests from Indian vendors. Some companies are in phases of ToT absorption in their plants. Hence repeated testing. Old block I-II articles needed software update to extend range, so not exactly an upgrade. NG is supposed to be ready by 2024.

All ramjets for Brahmos come from Russia. That doesn't change whatever the variants . That's the nature of our understanding with them . Otherwise we'd have indigenized it long ago .

Ramjet is not the only thing that propels it, hence indigenisation level will be capped at 68% as rest part by value is for the engine mainly, committed to be bought from Rus only. For NG, local made CRMC motor casing, heat shield etc are already worked on.
