General News, Questions And Discussions - Indian Navy

1 lakh crore deal for 26 rafales + 3 scorpene. dollar main convert karo toh 13.3 billion US dollars. 65,000 crore for 26 rafales. roughly convert karo toh $8.6 Billion. Lmao. thats $308 million per aircraft. is desh ke gobar planners or gobar leaders aur unke gobar bhakts....sab ke sab iss desh ko le dubenge. mass unemployment issue na ban jaye iss liye hindu-muslim dange karwate raho. uske upar itne mehnge imports karwate raho.

3 billion ka aircrft carrier. 8.8 billion ke 26 aircraft.....amazing. kisi ne iske upar koi objection nahin uthaya ab tak. had these 8 billion invested into a domestic programme, toh ab tak amca ki line lag chuki hoti.

15 saal baad we will again pay 8 billion dollars to upgrade these same aircraft like we did for mirage 2000.

is desh main lakhon log abhi bhi khule main hagte hain lekin kisi ko parvah nahin ki paise education, industrialisation ya domestic stealth fighter program main hi laga dein. Chutiya desh chutiya praja.

The issue of concern is that Navy is pushing for 31 Rafale Ms for the IAC1 follow on. If this happens, this will be a very big blow to TEDBF.

irony toh dekho. daant phad ke ye bolna jab ye khud $8.6 Billion ke aircraft import karwa raha hai. lmao And that too a 4th gen non-stealth aircraft like rafale. agar F-35 hota toh samajh main bhi aata. submarines are worth it but not these aircrafts. Ye gaandu is desh ki ma chod ke rahenge.

lmao....there was a perception created that navy is the most competent of the 3 branches as it embraced indigenisation whole-heartedly.

absolute gobar mentality of the top leadership irrespective of the mil branch. keeping TEDBF hostage to rafale imports....incredible.
yah toh inferiority complex bahaut hai inke andar, nahin toh there are kickbacks involved in this deal, which explains why tedbf was hostage to this deal. it has to be either 1 of these explanations. I think its the latter. Either there is bribes or blackmailing involved. everyone knows ki ye "natashas" ki gori chamdi dekh kar kaise phisal jate hain.

Initially 21 were planned. Now increased to 31.

Yes, found that very interesting.

Currently only 19 FAC in service, with T91 transferred out to other country. So 21 would have roughly been same number.
31 suggests that IN is planning to expand the fleet by 50% or ~10 ships. Infact since most of these are quite new, and IN is executing procurement at a high pace, at one point we may easily operate a fleet of ~40 FACs

Note that FACs are commissioned ships.

On other hand, 120 FIC-Is aligns to previous acquisitions;

07 XFAC
23 ISV across 2 classes
15 FIC Plascoa
80 FIC SM-50
----
125
----

From 125 several have been decommissioned, transferred to foreign countries, lost to accidents etc

IN is smart about doing one large acquisition and solving the whole issue in one go. These ships don't have long time spans and were mostly acquired after 2008 Mumbai attacks, so already ~15 years old.

Have the Israeli Super Davora XFACs been retired yet or are they still in service?

We do need a new class of XFAC like those for special forces and coastal surveillance ops imo. Perhaps some could be armed with the NASM-SR in surface launched config for surprise attacks.

We currently have 65 vessels under construction and 63 of them (are being built) in Indian shipyards

1. Samarthak class MPV = 02
2. Kalvari class SSK = 01
3. Visakhapatnam class DDG = 01
4. Nilgiri class FFG = 07
5. Talwar class FFG = 04
6. Mahe class ASWSWC = 08
7. Arnala class ASWSWC = 08
8. Sandhyak class SVL = 02
9. Nistar class DSV = 02
10. Diving Support Craft = 05
11. Fleet Support Ship = 05
12. Cadet Training Ship = 03
13. Next Generation OPV = 11
14. Next Generation Missile Vessel = 06

@aditya g

Now we are having the correct distribution as one Sandhayak class is already delivered to the IN.

Project-17 Alpha frigates (P-17A)
>Critical Sub-systems:
1. Propulsion

General Electric LM2500 - imported [HAL conducts assembly, inspection, and testing (AIT)]
MAN 12V28/33D STC engines - imported [some(not all) assembled and tested at MAN factory works in Aurangabad]
Gearbox - imported form German company Renk [Assambled & tested by Elecon, an indian company][lifted into ship]

Complete foreign dependency on american & german companies. No domestic alternative for the forseable future.

2.Main Sensors

IAI EL/M-2248 MF-STAR - imported
Indra Lanza-N L-band - imported [assembled & tested by TASL]
BEL HUMSA-NG active/passive sonar - domestic supply
DRDO EW suite - domestic supply

Dependency on Spanish & Israeli companies. Most expensive part of the ship is imported from Israel. Domestic alternative under testing(LR-MFR).

3.Armament
Barak-8 - Seeker Assembly(most expensive & sensitive part of the missile) imported
Brahmos - Ramjet, fuel, seeker all imported

Dependency on Israeli & Russian companies.
Alternative to both systems - Akash NG / LFRJ

Pretty much everything of critical value on these ships is imported. Then why the fuc/k is navy making 7 of them???? mass manufacturing of ships when everything of value is imported makes no sense. Navy used to make just 3 or 4 of these ships (what I call boutique manufacturing as opposed to mass manufacturing), which made a lot of sense considering the imported content. They should have continued doing that until LRMFR is ready. The most expensive part of this ship is the MFSTAR. Replacing that should be the starting point.

But then these geniuses have already greenlit Project 17B. Pretty much same imported content with a little more screwdrivergiri. Building 7~8 ships again with everything imported makes no fuc/king sense.

Just shows the pathetic planning of the senior-most leadership of this country. ret@rded clowns, all of them. Especially navy.

No large warships(heavy frigates & destroyers) should be mass manufactured until LRMFR is ready. There is critical shortage of small ships in categories of corvettes, Missile vessels, Minesweepers, light frigates (like Talwars), OPVs that they could've spend billions on but they chose to do P17B. If so urgent was the need of heavy ships, then they should've just built another class of boutique ships (3~4 quantities) with extensive upgrades to ship design, while waiting for LRMFR to be ready. If there is so much impatience then invest more money into domestic R&D to develop these critical sub-systems faster instead of just importing it.

By the time indig alternative is ready chinkaland would have rubber stamped something like a 100 destroyers and 50 subs....we need numbers fast and needed it yesterday.

An off topic question, where is PKS? Is he alive? His blogpost is dead.

I'm all but certain that he has passed away.

He had gone on a long hiatus a while before his last activity and later posted on his blog that he had undergone heart surgery...my guess is that there were complications following the surgery and he unfortunately couldn't make it.

I contacted Ghazala Wahab on Twitter earlier this year (she's the editor of FORCE magazine for which PKS used to write) and this was the answer:

So yeah, I think it's safe to assume that he has passed.

RIP. His contributions & analysis will be sorely missed. Don't think anyone can ever fill those shoes.

Just gonna reiterate my previous take on P75I:

Post in thread 'Project 75 India Diesel-electric Submarine Programs (SSK) : Updates and Discussions' Project 75 India Diesel-electric Submarine Programs (SSK) : Updates and Discussions

In short, this is a dead duck program. It'll never get us boats in hand.

3 more Scorpenes for the low-end (add another 3 if we want, and fit them all with DRDO AIP) and SSNs for the high-end is gonna be the way to go.
