Remember what did I tell you about how the entire Indo US technological tie up DTTI is just a wastee of time ever since the key people to drive it Ash Carter & MP are no more in charge and mutual suspicions, distrust, a wide gulf in perceptions and the domineering attitude of the US is undermining the initiative.

Yep. And this is what I pointed out to @Falcon as well. The Americans have no interest in developing our industry, they only want to sell us their stuff and become their dependent like Japan.

Which you have to admit is the most American thing ever.

The issue is politicians and bureaucrats can potentially buy their claims of ToT, like the F-16 production line transfer, which is a sham. They will only transfer what's realistically possible within their own export control laws, and not what we need.

If you recall the Indo-US partnership was actually called DTI, Defence Trade Initiative. So they were already very clear on what was going to happen, that it's only for selling their stuff. But GoI insisted on changing it to DTTI, Defence Technology and Trade Initiative, so they can sell to the public that there will be significant absorption of American technology into India.

Every Indian govt. since time immemorial has been singing tunes of indegenisation,self-sufficiency,home grown technology, nth country to achieve this, exclusive club and the funniest of them all EXPORT POTENTIAL. Back a few decades people were awfully unaware of how things worked so these rants would hold good. But the buzzwords are losing value. Undeniably there has been significant progress made, but we have a long way to go.
