GTRE Kaveri Engine

Probably the best CAD photo of Kaveri dry engine I've ever come across:

Not related to Kaveri but still has direct implication:

MIDHANI has set up a 2000 MT near-isothermal forge for forging titanium alloys & other super alloys. Tech was developed by DMRL. This forge will produce turbine discs for Adour engines:

Would in benefit Jaguars in terms of power or life?

Not really. Service life of the engine should increase but the Jaguar airframes are too old to make any use of that.

The real benefit of setting up this press will go to the HTFE-25, HTSE-1200, Manik STFE etc. Having a press of this kind will speed up the manufacturing of the hot section of those engines.

Many years ago, we signed a deal with Klimov to develop 3d thrust vectoring. I did not know that we had produced any prototypes:

I think this collaboration was started when Russia developed 3D TVC for Mig 35.

I guess 2D TVC was offered to India which is also present in Su 30 Mki.

That time we had discussed in forum about Single engine Fighter using the TVC..

We were drooling about fitting TVC in GE 414 in mk2 .. Otherwise we didn't have any other fighter development programs at that time.
like the tedbf / Amca.

Remember how you celebrated a fake news.
The news was legit. However, IAF opposed this idea. Now a Mig-29 will be alloted to test a Kaveri prototype.

Sooner or later, we're going to achieve all our goals under Modi regime. Till then you're welcome to continue with your pessimism;)

It's only a question of time to succeed.
If China do it, India will do it.
You main problem was that you tried too complexe things as a beginning : the smaller jet of the world (Tejas) and a brand new engine (Kaveri). It was too ambitious.

Lol no. The idea of directly testing on a single engine aircraft is too stupid. There was never a discussion and IAF is not even in the picture. HAL have enough TDs and prototypes to repurpose if GTRE requests.

Some one made a clickbait statement and they must have retracted the same by putting it on IAF.

Only idiots get high on misplaced optimism.

There is a lot of worrying and thrashing about on various threads about MK1A, MKII etc. most of it engine related. Gentlemen does anyone have a realistic timeline about when GTRE Kaveri actually can go into production? Thank you.

Kaveri dry version has gone into limited production. Godrej will deliver the 1st dry engine with in the next 8-11 months. As I understand all materials & machinery overheads needed for this production run has been acquired. GTRE will provide the stators, blades & discs for the hot section. These engines are meant for the Ghatak UCAV program. I think we should leave the UCAV program undisturbed; it will be a great capability addition for us.

The new & improved afterburner section is being produced by Brahmos aerospace. That will probably be delivered 2-3 months after the dry Kaveri engine.

DRDO/GTRE had floated a proposal to test out 3-4 full size Kaveri engines (with afterburners) with the Tejas fighters. The IAF has shot down that proposal stating that testing a new unproven engine on a single engine fighter would be very risky. So now there are talks ongoing to requisition some old twin engine fighter from the IAF to test the Kaveri engine. Probable candidates being the MiG-29s & Su-30MKIs. Mig-29 would be a better fit.

If all goes well, & that is a big if, we can hope to see a Kaveri powered Mk-1A within the next 5-6 years.

More like 8-10 years which in itself isn't bad. Gives us the opportunity to install it into the
Mk-1s inducted in 2016 or earlier due for MLU in 2035-36.

Russia's UEC unveils a new engine to replace the RD-33 engines:

Kaveri engine is mentioned in the slide. Kaveri is shown to have better specific thrust than the Russian RD-33MK & the Chinese WS-13 engines. Russians would know, given that we flight tested the Kaveri in Russia.

And we just very recently bought >200 engine s for both mig 29 ans Su 30 mki.

Is there any chance for us to upgrade engines ?

Perhaps in Su upgrade in second batch 83 ?

200 engines. 2 engines per fighter. 1.5-2 sets of engines over the life of the fighter's airframe. So, 200 engines should be sufficient for 50-65 fighters.
Perhaps in Su upgrade in second batch 83 ?
That's what I am hoping for.

Who knows. But Super Su-30 upgrade feels incomplete without new engines.
