There's no guarantee of that. We will know for sure only when details emerge.

For example, our ASAT sits between SM-3 Block 1B and Block 2A as of today, although it's the same size as the GBI. It needs upgrades if it is to surpass the SM-3 Block 2A, and even more so if it's to match the GBI. So, whether AD-2 will match or exceed SM-3 B2A, in turn our ASAT, that's to be seen.

Altitudes
SM-3 B1A/B = 500-600Km
SM-3 B2A = 1500Km
GBI = 2000Km
ASAT = 300Km demonstrated, 800-1200Km claimed. Requires upgrades to surpass SM-3 and GBI. We are gonna need our own ASAT Mk1A/ Mk2 etc.

So even if AD-2 is bigger, I have no clue if the objective is to stop missiles at altitudes of above IRBM class weapons, where we already have the ASAT. Agni III's apogee is 500Km, IV is at 900Km and V is at 600Km. DF-21's apogee is 500Km. DF-26's should be somewhere between 500-1000Km as well, I believe it should be around 500-600Km though. So we need a missile that sits between SM-3 B1 and 2. But this is for midcourse interception. For terminal, we don't need more than 300Km altitude. A bigger design doesn't necessarily mean there's an overlap in capabilities, especially when we do not know the role of AD-2 yet.



It's small enough to fit in the VLS of ships, and can reach an altitude of 1500Km, which is enough to stop many types of ICBMs.
 
It's still an unclear statement. India has operational capability or has capability to develop, both mean different things.

To stop all kinds of ICBMs, even future ones, we need the ability to reach up to 2500Km. ASAT will have to be further developed to reach this capability.
We don't know it's true potential yet such large missile with huge KV should travel further.

I still believe AD 2 will be our mid course interceptor.

Its heavy,because your missile technology & fuel grain quality is not as good as that of NATO, china & Russia. There is no room for conspiracy theory on our missile range, who wants to announce your strategic weapon delivery mechanism's range as low? No one.

We have a 150km SAM (derived from Barak 8) and a 250km SAM (dervied from AAD) already under development known as LR-SAM and XR-SAM.

We had a requirement of 12 regiments of S400 type systems. We will order 7 regiments of this combo once they complete the development.

DRDO conducts successful maiden flight-test of Phase-II Ballistic Missile Defence interceptor off Odisha coast​

Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) conducted a successful maiden flight-test of Phase-II Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) interceptor AD-1 missile with large kill altitude bracket from APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha on November 02, 2022. The flight-test was carried out with participation of all BMD weapon system elements located at different geographical locations.

The AD-1 is a long-range interceptor missile designed for both low exo-atmospheric and endo-atmospheric interception of long-range ballistic missiles as well as aircraft. It is propelled by a two-stage solid motor and equipped with indigenously-developed advanced control system, navigation and guidance algorithm to precisely guide the vehicle to the target.

During the flight-test, all the sub-systems performed as per expectations and were validated by the data captured by a number of range sensors including Radar, Telemetry and Electro Optical Tracking stations deployed to capture the flight data.

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO and other teams associated with successful flight trial of AD-1. He termed it as a unique type of interceptor with advanced technologies available with a very few nations in the world. He exuded confidence that it will further strengthen the country’s BMD capability to the next level.

Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and Chairman, DRDO Dr Samir V Kamat congratulated his team on the successful trial, stating that this interceptor will provide great operational flexibility to the users and having capability to engage many different types of targets.

2 things can be guessed.

Low Exo Atmospheric.

I might be off, but what I remember from geography Exosphere starts from somewhere like 500km altitude.

Low exo atmospheric should mean like 350km altitude at the very minimum.

Rest we don't know anything.

The length can be estimated by the length of flatbed of Tata 10x10. That I leave to someone else.
