Indian Missiles and Munitions Discussion

Hemant Kumar Rout is also reporting it . He normally has accurate information about these events .
Yeah I saw it , felt there was notam activity in the area yesterday. Today I also looked once but it was after 11am and planes was passing through. So whatever happened may have happened yesterday. Did not check in afternoon. The slots usually are between 10am-4:30PM.

This is where you ought to be more dedicated. Resident Story teller when he was your age used to get as close to HAL airport in Bangalore as possible to report on the latest in the progress of the LCA program . He couldn't get closer than 4 kms so he used his binoculars with a range of 500 mtrs.

What he lacked by way of vision he made up for by his imagination , traits we're still seeing to this day after all those yrs . You needn't go down that path . All you need to do is get better binoculars & dedication which unfortunately is inate not purchased.

Hope you won't let us down next time .

This kind of continuous personal attack and unnecessary trolling will not be tolerated.

You are doing this on so many threads and it's deteriorating quality of discussions.

Hope you understand that.

Interesting, i didnt know we have this capability.
Better replace these outdated Russian missiles(R-77/R-27ER/R-73E))with our Astra and ASRAAM block-6. Astra 2 should be ready for serial production run in about an year and it's going to be a game-changer. Also an Astra 2 based IR BVR missile(if we pursue) can even replace R-27ET.

DRDO has done an amazing job in terms of giving us self-reliance in missile tech. Kudos to them.

It would be best to get over this "get rid of it"/ "something fancy is coming up" argument on every occasion. All new things are expensive and it takes time to produce/train and integrate into the force structure.

Extending the existing weapon system's life ensures that we are getting the most out of the money we already spend. We cannot always wait for the mythical new missile to fill the role.

This 'amazing job of DRDO' is yet to translate into cheap, reliable, scalable missile systems. Till then, make the most out of what we already have. Be it Pechora or R-77.

The 55 high-priority DRDO projects include ongoing MM projects such as – Anti-Air Field Weapon, Solid Fuel Ducted Ramjet Technology, Surface to Air Missiles, Anti-Ship Missile, Long Range Radar, Combat Vehicles, High Endurance, Autonomous Underwater Vehicle, Combat Suit for Submarines, Submarine Periscope etc. among others.

So SAAW NASM , submarine periscope etc are MM projects & seeing some good action, but budget allocation is absolute pittance. This part is what I hate. At least separate a proper R&D dedicated fund, instead they are even lumbered with gst.

RCI has been releasing some good uav related sow, recent one has a payload of 8kg which sort of matches with ULPGM so could be perfect fit. lets see if it is for that purpose or not.

EDIT: On second thought, this quadcopter got autonomous mode, Lidar etc so maybe different use. :giggle:

Thanks very much, checked it.

DDR said the LR-SOW is not LRGB as I thought, rather something different. What else could it be, except for Rudram maybe, ngarm?

According to PKS:

The Long Range Stand-Off Weapon (LRSOW) is the 1,000kg Gaurav glide-bomb that will be produced by Adani Defence & Aerospace. The smaller 550kg Gautham glide-bomb & 550kg PG-HSLD (with dual-guidance) meant for LCA, Jaguar, MiG-29UPG, MiG-29K & Mirage-2000s is still awaiting a production order.

Apparently, air launched subsonic(maybe stealthy!!??) cruise missile with about 1000-1500 kms range.

That range is impossible at present going by our air launched standoff range system criteria. Upto 600km I can understand, over that I think is still somewhat far away & ground launch version will come first before the air launched system. Maybe it won't matter for AoN stage, but I see almost nil actual product possible at present. In 4-5 years, yes.

At 600kms it would be our Storm Shadow/Scalp-EG equivalent. Hoping for a quick development and deployment from Flanker & Tejas:)

I do not doubt that, I meant what equivalent project we got that is specifically long range standoff ability for Su30? A Scalp equivalent is theoretically Nirbhay & its derivative alw version. If not then some new project that we do not know about. Will be disappointing if its Brahmos Air version.
