New MSP may drive up farmer income by 24%
NEW DELHI: Prices available to farmers for their harvest could increase by about 15% as a result of the budget announcement to hike the Minimum Support Price(MSP), according to an estimate prepared by government’s think tank Niti Aayog. This is likely to raise the income of farmers by 24%, it has projected.
While proposing three options in a draft document titled “Ensuring MSP Benefits to Farmers”, the Niti Aayog has estimated that the government will require to earmark between Rs 47,000 crore and Rs 1.11 lakh crore to see every farmer gets the assured price for his produce.
It has also cautioned that increase in MSP “will have strong implications for inflation and consumers” while suggesting the need to weed out middlemen who corner the profit by improving supply chain, competitive markets, application of modern logistics and commerce in agriculture marketing.
“MSP based on new formula of 50% more than (A2+FL) cost implies average increase of 7.1% in the existing MSP. The second source of increase in prices is replacement of the existing FHP, which are lower than MSP, to the level of MSP. This is likely to raise MSP by another 7% to 10%. Thus the combined effect of the two budget announcements on farm level prices will be about 15%,” the think tank has said.
Farm harvest price (FHP) is the average wholesale price at which the commodity is disposed of by the producer at the village site during six to eight weeks immediately after the harvest period.
The Niti Aayog has batted for involving private sector in the procurement at MSP by offering them incentives.
Sources said even Union ministers weighing the three options have difference of opinions. They added there is a view that the present mechanism of price support schemes or market assurance scheme can be made more effective rather than resorting to private players.
“The state government should set up permanent procurement centers at all mandis and these should be notified well in advance. Farmers should be allowed to register themselves before harvest and the payment should be made to their accounts directly. Quantity of procurement per family in one day may be calibrated with land holding of small and marginal farmers,” said an official.
In his budget speech, finance minister Arun Jaitley had said the government would work with Niti Aayog to develop system of optimum farm and price realisation to double the income of farmers.

A secular India which believed terrorism has no religion suddenly found a color and religion to it when the family sensed they are about to be dethroned? Your fears being from a minority group can be justified somewhat but unfortunately it's the Secular parties who threw you under the bus not BJP, they are only harvesting what Congress sowed in 70 years of their misrule.

It will mean bitter division of Hindus on the basis of castes. Which will further fuel caste violence. A perfect and most preferred scenario for minorities, Hindus will be killing each other and they can carry on with their perverted agendas while giving sanctimonious sermons to anpadh castist hindus.

Are minorities fighting next elections as a political party? Blame will be on secular political parties and will be another nail in secular india’s coffin. People are aware of who are playing divisive politics and how.
As per the right wing, it's only the minorities who are secular, so yeah in Modis India minority and secular are used interchangeably.
It obviously does not make a difference to point out that in an electorate of a billion Hindus, a majority of them did not vote for the divisive idrology of Hindutva in 2014.
India is a secular construct.
If you try and change the secular part, the construct will not remain untouched.

Hinduism is a cut above all others when it comes to intertwining science (cosmic and nature), spirituality and religious ideology. Its core fundamentals must be propagated vigorously because it embraces knowledge and education, very important for progressive India. Not the version promoted by anpadhs and nutjobs from RSS , BD, VHP etc - no different from the mid-century Vatican where the church was all politics and no prayer.

Nope, minorities are psuedo secular, they are happy as long hindus are busy fighting among themselves. Meem and Bheem, cottage industry of dalit writers and thinkers among christians.
Bjp has its own short comings but its the only party which talks about Hindus as one group unlike samajwadi yadavs, tilak tarazu aur talwar famed bahenji, bangladeshi loving maomata or Loony upper caste hindus masquerading as dalit sympathising commies.
