Indian Political Discussion

The problem for BJP is they have never "really" demonstrated their ability to rule in Karnataka. They are quite powerful, but have mainly been the opposition here. The only time they came to power in 2008, they screwed it up due to petty politics.

Because of Modi, there is a sense of uncertainty, but the most likely result is a hung assembly.

Hung assembly is the most likely result.

The problem for Modi is BJP is at a political disadvantage in Karnataka. The BJP here has been involved in scams, particularly the Reddy brothers and their mining mafia in Central Karnataka. Not to mention, the BJP itself is not united.

Regardless, Central Kar is BJP's fiefdom. Northeast and Northwest Kar belongs to Congress. The coast is split, as is South Kar. Just so you know, they are all pretty much swing constituencies. Constituencies change hands at the drop of a hat. Predictions don't have a place here.

The Supreme Court verdict in the Cauvery dispute is a huge plus point for Congress. Water is pretty much the biggest election point in the South.
Cauvery water dispute verdict: SC rules Tamil Nadu will get 404 tmcft, lower than Tribunal's 419 tmcft award - Times of India ►

If not a marginal majority for BJP, I'm hoping for a hung assembly. If that happens, Modi and Shah can turn on their power charm to entice JDS to form a coalition again, regardless of the 2007 fiasco when JDS backstabbed BJP.

Yeah, let's see what Modi does with all the rallies. There's still time left for people to form their opinions. We can make a more definite prediction only in the last 2 or 3 days.
In spite of all the screw ups, BJP and KJP together got around 30% vote during 2013 election. So Congress getting full majority is simply ruled out.

Yes, Cauvery verdict could have been a huge plus point for South Karnataka. But so far for whatever reasons Congress has not marketed it as much as it could have done. The most likely result will be a hung assembly with BJP as the single largest party.

That's a secular rape, nothing to worry, such rapes are encouraged not punished, in which world are you? Didn't you saw secular riots of Bengal? NDTV defended them.
What is worrying is the MSM which took up cudgels for Kathua and Unnao rape are silent over the gangrape and murder of opposition contestants of Pachayat elections,Not a word , discussion or news on MSM.
It is all Secular rape and Killing, People changed after watching such Secular violence and Secular parties cry Hindus are becoming Sanghis and voting for BJP. You now know the reason why.

The Congress in Karnataka is different from other states, they are actually competent.
You missed a lot
Already deals are being made if its a hung assembly, JDS will join hands with BJP
H.D.DeweGowda has already admonished Siddaramiah for insulting him.
Congress CM himself stated there is a sharing of seats agreement between BJP and JDS.

Not PM Modi, not Yogi! BJP in Karnataka has its own “Star Campaigner” who is younger than Rahul Gandhi and is all set to defeat CM Siddaramaiah in Badami constituency
While Congress has paid all of its attention on the rallies of PM Modi and Yogi Adityanath, it has totally failed to curb the impact of another star campaigner of BJP. The 46 year of Member of the Parliament (MP) is silently decimating the dreams of Congress party in Karnataka and no one ever calculated that he will topple table in favour of BJP in nearly a dozen of constituencies.

BJP has unleashed its top gun PM Modi at the last moment and it has already started creating magic. Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath is yet to enter Karnataka and even his rallies will be equally dangerous to the Congress, like that of PM Modi. So, the Congress party is trying to tag them as outsiders and curb their impact.

This firebrand leader who is younger than Rahul Gandhi is none other than Bellary MP B Sriramulu. The BJP had checkmated the Congress by announcing his name in the first list of candidates in the assembly elections. Speculations are high that he will also be the deputy CM if BJP comes to power and this is working wonders for BJP.

But while doing these gimmicks, the Congress has totally ignored B Sriramulu and that’s where the BJP has succeeded. Sriramulu is effortlessly garnering heavy support with his oratory skills in the rallies he address.

Who is Sreeramulu? Will he defeat CM Siddaramaiah in the Badami constituency?

“The battle is won if the commander is eliminated” and the BJP is following this principle very strictly. That’s why the BJP had sharpened its strategy to defeat the Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah in both the constituency where he is contesting.

Out of insecurity, Mr Siddaramaiah is contesting in Chamundeshwari and Badami constituency. In Badami, BJP had fielded its youth leader and the star campaigner B Sriramulu. Reports have also said that in the Chamundeshwari constituency, CM Siddaramaiah will taste defeat as JDS is surging ahead; even during Mr Siddaramaiah’s rallies in the constituency, the voters were seen raising their voice against him.

The caste politics of Mr Siddaramaiah has completely failed as giving minority status to Lingayats has gone wrong and it is said that Sriramulu has an upper hand in the region when compared to that of Siddaramaiah. In 2011, Sriramulu had come out of the BJP and had floated his own party named Badavara Shramikara Raithara (BSR) Congress and fought in the 2013 State Assembly Elections. The party had contested in 150 seats and had won in 4 constituencies.

Altogether, Sriramulu’s party had garnered 2.7 % of the total votes casted in 2013. This itself is enough to describe the charisma of B Sriramulu in Karnataka. Now the game plan of not dismissing the claims that he will be BJP’s deputy CM candidate has created a positive impact on the more than 20 constituencies.

“We have seen the kind of work he has done in our neighbouring district of Gadag. He has paid electricity, water bills for the poor, conducted so many mass-marriages at his expense,” said a voter in Badami town.

Even though BJP has declared BS Yeddyurappa as its CM candidate, the youths have gone crazy after Sriramulu’s candidature. Now, it is up to Sriramul–who is younger than Rahul Gandhi– on how he will use himself to corner CM Siddaramaiah.

At present, the survey reveals that BJP might get around 95-110 seats!

Couple of surveys have said that BJP will just cross the majority mark whereas few other surveys have said that there will be a hung assembly. If there is a hung assembly, then the BJP needs to incline towards JDS. In PM Modi’s first rally that was held on May 1st, he had bashed Congress for not respecting former PM HD Devegowda. It was taken as BJP’s hint of joining hands with JDS if there is a hung assembly. Even HD Deve Gowda held a press meet today and appreciated PM Modi for batting in favour of him.

So, if CM Siddaramaiah is defeated in both the constituencies, then it will be easy for the BJP and JDS to join hands by arguing that “The people have rejected Congress’ CM candidate Siddaramaiah, so it will be against the mandate of the Kannadigas to join hands with the Congress”.

BJP will do well, but getting 113 seats is extremely difficult.

well, what I had predicted is already happening it seems. The latest opinion poll being shown on Republic TV is showing that BJP is gaining ground and Congress is loosing ground to JDS and BJP. Modi did a master stroke by praising HD Devegowda. Seems all upper caste Hindus are now migrating to BJP+JDS in the hope that these two will form a coalition govt. I expect Congress to melt down even further.

The biggest factor in the elections will be the consolidation of the Hindu vote. People are sick of the Congress's minority appeasement tactics, the Lingayat divide was the last straw.

Whatever happening in AMU is awesome. If you think JNU is worst visit AMU, breakdown of writ of state, goons rule that area. Driven by muslim majority students openly mocks law and order and police cant do a thing. They get thrashed and beaten often and it never makes it to headlines cuz secularism will be in danger.

Though the university managment is not extremist and neither is majority of students but there is good amount of students that take advantage of majority and in the event of clash(any kind, verbal, policy, beating, etc) all the moderates side with majority cuz of "own blood".

It's great that all the no go areas where common man was not allowed, where extremism and hatred was preached openly and writ of state was not applicable are now under pressure. Few bad apples supported by appeasement and vote bank policies corrupted whole institution. These forts must be brought down otherwise in this hyper connected world any fake news or enemy manipulation can breed lone wolves putting lot of innocents in danger.

Deve Gowda dismisses PM Modi’s remarks on him as insignificant - Star of Mysore

Hmmm, secret meeting before Gujarat elections, now Tipu love before Karnataka.

Our western neighbor is now openly supporting Congress after repeated requests from congress ministers and visits.

Interesting. What next? Riots or terriost attack just before 2019? NDTV and cousins can sell it as failure of Modi.

You didn't add your patented word after the sentence . Wait ! Don't tell us. You were finally cured after 3 months in Velankanni. Lord be praised !!

I'm amused. I've never had a problem with you calling me muslim/Christian/mulla/pastor etc. But even at this late date when it is clear that BJP is headed for a cataclysm a small group of people like you still insisting that 'anyone not supporting/criticizing BJP is not a hindu but a Christian or muslim' is deeply amusing. a billion hindus are planning to boot them out and you're still sying only muslims or Christians are against them.

BJP will lose Karnataka.

It's not "BJP will lose Karnataka". It's "BJP will lose in Karnataka". BJP never had Karnataka for them to lose it in the first place.

You see, BJP has never had a majority in Karnataka, ever. So if the BJP gets a majority in Karnataka, that's no different from Congress getting a majority in Gujarat.

So I don't think you realize what's at stake here. If BJP takes the majority, this is will a new tsunami that will envelope the General Elections also.

there is no tsunami anywhere. There's nothing at stake. As of today, 4th May 2018, it is easier for a donkey to pass through a needle's eye than for BJP to come to power in Karnataka. Will the BJP pull off something that will change the situation in 8 days? Highly unlikely. In reality they don't even seem to be very serious about their campaigning. They've flooded radio channels with ads, but in local area campaigning only Congress is pushing. A little bit of AAP but they won't make any breakthroughs I guess. Congress has comfortably wrapped this up. And why not? Siddu's no genius but he's done a decent job. Kept the peace, did good work on roads, no major scandals, kept businesses running. He's no inspiration like CBN but probably deserves getting re-e;ected, definitely leagues ahead of Yeddy.

Where's the shame in being part of an evangelising group ? If you've problems in being called out , learn to respect others religious sentiments . Don't go calling names on sensitive issues particularly if you've plenty of skeletons in your religious closet.

That ppl support Modi doesn't construe support for the BJP + RSS. They've a questionable agenda . It's baseless criticism that's polarised more voters on religious lines than alleged reports of intolerance masquerading as Hindu bashing .Why blame the minorities when our own CO religionists are adept at playing the game whether in the media or the academic world what to speak of political parties .

Semitic religions while sharing a common origin have never Co - existed peacefully ever . In any part of the world .

What they're up against in India is another Semitic Creed ( Hindutva - a philosophy as propounded by the Sangh ) claiming the same exclusivity and pre eminence that Semitic religions have claimed as their own and think they've the monopoly over.

Coming back to the Karnataka elections , please do not presume to speak on behalf of a billion Hindus or even the ones in Karnataka . I've gone on record to say that I think neederamiah's going to hold on to power or there'd be a hung assembly with the Congress emerging as the largest party.

However , since posting that statement I'm increasingly veering to the view of a hung assembly with or without the Congress constituting the majority . In case of such a scenario , I very much doubt if the JD - (S) will ever support Siddharamiah , given their past history . Perhaps you need to go thru the Star of Mysore article that you've posted , in detail instead of skimming over it as usual .

I'm no fan of BSY or his politics . He's another Kalyan Singh who after spending his life building up the party in his state had lillle to show for it in personal fortunes and like the best of ppl succumbed to the temptation . Just my two cents . That doesn't abolve him . He wouldn't get my vote , if I were a denizen of Karnataka but neither would Neederamiah or the accidental Ex PM & his equally worthless son .

Needaramiah continues the glorious Congress policy of unabashed populism & initiating public policy for public good only if there's something in it for him &/or did his party. Most of which is cleverly aimed at the AHINDA. And for forward castes like the Lingayats , what better way to set the cat among the pigeons than support a fringe groups demand for a separate religion all the more coz that fool BSY in a desperate attempt to gain legitimacy with his caste supported such a move when he parted ways with the BJP a few years ago .

Such is the state of the leaders & leadership in Karnataka . For all his "spectacular achievements " , he had to play such trump cards as the described above & declare Tipu Jayanti a state holiday & also raise the issue of Kannada pride and further declare support for beef politics a la Karnad style or URA style .

You didn't use the magic word. Just one word , given your ADHD is in an advanced stage . Incapable of a cure in such an esteemed religious set up beatified by the Pope too . I'm betting it'd make an appearance in less than 5 posts
