Indian Political Discussion

BJP does not need money from arms contract. It has other sources of money far better. How do you think it won 2014 elections? They were out of power for 10 years in centre and had hardly a few states like MP, Chatthisgarh, Gujarat, Goa and Karnataka with them. Congress had much more states and power at centre.
highly unlikely...L&T won't give BJP 200 crore for election. Their CEO has to rise up thru the ranks and not be son of founder.

Congress MLA resigns; party loses 'single largest party' tag in Meghalaya
The opposition Congress lost the status of the single largest party in Meghalaya Legislative Assembly after one of its MLAs, Martin M Danggo, quit his membership in the House.

It has effectively left the Congress strength to 20, equal to that of the ruling National People's Party (NPP), which is running a coalition government in the north-eastern state with the BJP and some regional parties.

The election for the 60-member Meghalaya Assembly was held in February last.

Danggo submitted his resignation to Deputy Speaker Timothy D Shira in the absence of Speaker Donkupar Roy late last night.

"I hereby tender my resignation of my seat in the assembly from Ranikor (ST) assembly constituency with effect from June 21, 2018," he said in his resignation letter.

He also intimated state Congress president of his decision to resign as the MLA as well from the primary membership of the party.

"As per the desire of my people, I have tendered my resignation as MLA with effect from June 21, 2018," Danggo said in his letter to PCC president.

"Therefore, with deep sorrow and regret in my heart, I am also resigning from the primary membership of Congress along with all positions that I am holding in the party with effect from June 21," he said.

Danggo, the five-time Congress MLA from Ranikor in South West Khasi Hills district, is likely to join the ruling National People's Party (NPP), sources close to him said.

The Congress MLA had announced his decision to join the NPP in a public meeting attended by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma in his constituency recently, after Sangma accepted the long-pending demand to upgrade Ranikor as a civil sub-division.

Home Minister James K Sangma confirmed the resignation of Danggo, saying it has been accordingly accepted.

After announcing on June 12 that he would quit, Danggo had put on hold his resignation following the cancellation of a cabinet meeting that was supposed to clear a proposal to set up a subdivision at Ranikor. The meeting was postponed as the chief minister was not keeping well.

Danggo submitted his resignation late last night.

With the latest development, the Congress strength in the House has been reduced to 20, same as the ruling NPP.

The ruling Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) comprises 20 MLAs of NPP, 7 of United Democratic Party (UDP), four of newly-formed Peoples Democratic Front (PDF), and two each of BJP and Hill State Peoples Democratic Party (HSPDP).

The NCP, with one MLA, and two independents are also supporting the government.

'Innova' not good enough for minister, wants 'Fortuner'
A Karnataka minister revved up a controversy on Thursday, saying he has sought a Toyota Fortuner SUV for official use as he is accustomed to travelling in "big cars since childhood", a remark that drew criticism from the opposition BJP but was defended by the Congress.

Food and Civil Supplies Minister B Z Zameer Ahmad Khan, who comes from a family of businessmen, said he has been sanctioned a Toyota Innova, which he found "low level", and so he sought a Fortuner.

"I have been travelling in big cars since my childhood. I have been sanctioned an Innova. I don't find it comfortable because I have always travelled in vehicles that are big (in height)....Innova is low level," he told reporters.

Khan, who is said to have a fleet of over 100 luxury buses, however, said Innova was a "good car....better than Fortuner, especially for long journeys....only that I am accustomed to travelling in cars that are big (in height)".

When his attention was drawn to the buzz in political circles that he had sought the Fortuner used earlier by Siddaramaiah, he said there were 2-3 SUVs still to be allotted and among those was the one used by the former chief minister.

The Congress leader said he was okay with any SUV, but as among the vehicles available was the Fortuner used by Siddaramaiah, and was in good condition, he asked for it.

"Is it a permanent car? These are all temporary. Even power is temporary," he said.

Reacting sharply to the minister's demand, BJP spokesman S Prakash said, as Khan owned a fleet of over 100 luxury buses he should travel in his own car.

"He owns over 100 luxury buses. Kumaraswamy (chief minister) wants to implement austerity measures. Khan has to serve the people of Karnataka, a majority of whom are poor or middle class. The minister should reduce his luxury," Prakash told a TV news channel.

Congress MP Syed Naseer Hussain, however, defended Khan, saying there was nothing wrong in a minister requesting for a particular type of vehicle.

"You people (the media) highlight unimportant issues. What's wrong in putting in a request? If a minister is uncomfortable in a car, why can't he ask for another?" Hussain, a Rajya Sabha member from the state, said.

Asked why was he seeking a government-owned vehicle when even Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy was using his personal Range Rover for official purposes, Khan said he wanted people to recognise that he was a minister.

"Chief Minister Kumaraswamy...everyone knows him. He needs no introduction...He is so popular. I'm just a minister. I too have a wish. It is rare to get this opportunity.

"People have to recognise us as ministers. If I go by a normal car, will people recognise me? If I go by minister's (government) car, they will say look the minister is going," he said.

Word of Caution : Debate with him on Anything But Politics, he seems to lose all nuances of Sanity while doing so. He is surprised why No one is suing us for tolerating his posts on the forum. :ROFLMAO:

Really can't wait for all of those *censored*s to die out. The extended Gandhi-Nehru family and the clans that have mixed with it need to be completely wiped out for India to progress. As long as even their last vestiges remain in some sort of positions of influence, they will continue to suck India's blood like parasites, and will do or say anything for their own benefit and to ensure the return of a favorable political dispensation.

did you yet determine which side I'm on ? here, let me make it easy for you to make up your mind about what should you reply. will it be a rhetoric or a rant for your answer?

I'm a hard core Modi supporter.
