Haryana has registered an increase of 52 points in sex ratio at birth in the last five years, as per data provided by the Civil Registration System of the state government.

According to the data, the sex ratio of the state has increased from 871 girls for every 1,000 boys in 2014 to 923 girls in 2019. Releasing the data, nodal officer for ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ in the state, Dr Rakesh Gupta, said the increase is higher than the target set by the government under the scheme.

The state releases sex ratio figures every year.

Gupta said that a total of 5,18,725 births were registered in 2019 of which 2,48,950 were females and 2,69,775 males. He said the majority of the districts, which had a low sex ratio of below 900 for decades, are now placed better with the sex ratio of over 920. “Panchkula and Ambala districts have recorded sex ratios 963 and 959, respectively, which is better than the ideal sex ratio of 950 as per public health experts,” he said.

The official further said that after the implementation of ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ in Haryana, nearly 25,000 girls were saved from “being killed in the last five years…”

Gupta said Mahendragarh district, which used to register the lowest sex ratio at birth in the state, has improved by 172 points. It recorded a ratio of 917 in 2019 compared to 745 in 2014.

It was in January 2015 that Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the nationwide campaign from Panipat. Gupta added that in 5 years, more than 730 FIRs were registered, including 185 in UP, Punjab, Delhi, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand, and around 2,000 people were arrested in the crackdown against female
foeticide.

Congress' Adhir Ranjan Choudhury asks who are real culprits of Pulwama, BJP hits back

New Delhi: Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Choudhury on Tuesday (January 14) said the troll regiment of RSS would have more strident and vociferous, had arrested Jammu and Kashmir cop Devinder Singh been 'Devinder Khan'. He also raised a question on the Centre asking who the 'real culprits' behind the Pulwama terror attack were.

On January 11, DSP Devinder Singh was arrested along with two wanted Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists from Baramulla's Shopian. The forces had also recovered five grenades from the car they were travelling in. Citing the incident, Choudhury demanded a 'fresh look' in the Pulwama attack in 40 CRPF personnel were killed in February last year.

"Had #DavindarSingh by default been Davindar khan, the reaction of troll regiment of RSS would have been more strident and vociferous. Enemies of our country ought to be condemned irrespective of Colour, Creed, and Religion," the Congress leader said in a series of tweets. "The chink in the armour is exposed in the valley much to the consternation of us, we can not afford ourselves to be penny wise and pound foolish," he tweeted.

"Now question will certainly be arisen as to who were the real culprits behind the gruesome Pulwama incident, need a fresh look on it," he said in another tweet.

Reacting to Choudhury's statement on the J&K DSP's arrest, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra hit back saying there should be a 'democratic surgical strike' on the grand-old party. "Congress has done exactly what it is capable of -- to attack India and save Pakistan," Patra said, addessing the media today. He also resurrected the term 'saffron terrorism' claiming that the coinage was invented at the behest of Congress President Sonia Gandhi.

Patra used the opportunity to highlight the Congress's stance on Batla House encounter, as well as Rahul Gandhi`s alleged statements on 'Hindu terror' which were later released through Wikileaks. All this came just a month away from the Delhi Assembly polls. "Dear Congress, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, do you have any doubt who launched the terror attack on Pulwama? I challenge you to come on camera and express that you don`t trust Indian Army and Indian Intelligence agencies," said Patra, from the BJP podium.

He further claimed that it was an effort by the party to give clean chit to Pakistan. "This is not a slip of the tongue, this is Congress speaking in Pakistan`s words," he said.

BJP went all out to launch an offensive against the Congress party by using the opportunity to remind Chowdhury's faux pas in the floor of the house during the debate of abrogation of Article 370. "Kuchh to gadbad hai. Kuchh to connection Pakistan ke sath hai (There`s something is wrong. There's some connection with Pakistan)," alleged Patra. He went on to claim that by Tuesday evening, 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Sayeed might express his 'love' for the Congress, as well.

Patra even insinuated that the Congress party is like a 'python' that wants to kill 'its mother'.

On Monday, Rahul Gandhi had dared PM Modi to enter any university in the country and appease the student and explain CAA and NRC, provided he did not have any police protection.

Over articulation of CAA and NRC, same thing I have been saying from sometime now. Amit Shah fkd up that bill, increased temperature and then intentionally/unintentionally let it grow and the biggest casualty is Indian public, Indian image.

From promising pro business, growing economy to perception of politically unstable right fringe ruling the roost, guess what it does to investors confidence. Every country spends millions to get positive image, here you are letting it ruined for free. He should be sent back to party where he can use those speeches to win votes and not taken much seriously by world.

Kingmaker can never be the king. Atleast thats how the sayings go. He is a good administrator but doesn’t have the capability to be a ruler. But I'm sure there is always an opportunity to develop, unlike the congress.

Fallout intensifies as DMK dares Congress to quit alliance

Ties between the DMK and Congress have been under strain over seat-sharing in local body polls with the Tamil Nadu Congress president K S Alagiri accusing the DMK of going against “coalition dharma”

Upping the ante on the Congress, its alliance partner in Tamil Nadu DMK on Wednesday said if the grand old party wants to quit the combine it can do so, news agency PTI reported.

Ties between the DMK and Congress have been under strain over seat-sharing in local body polls with the Tamil Nadu Congress president K S Alagiri accusing the DMK of going against “coalition dharma”. The issue came to light when the DMK boycotted the Opposition strategy meeting against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, NRC and NPR, convened by the Congress in New Delhi.

When asked about Congress’ charge that DMK violated coalition dharma, DMK veteran leader Duraimurugan said, “if they want to quit, let them do so. How are we concerned, what is the loss for us?.”

Duraimurugan further said that the party was not worried about Congress leaving the alliance and in particular he was not concerned.

When asked whether it will impact the votes in favour of DMK, he said his party will not be affected at all. “Do they have votes to make an impact?” he asked, in his sarcastic style.

Duraimurugan’s statement came a day after his party colleague and former Union Minister T R Baalu said only time will tell whether ties with the Congress would go back to normalcy. When asked about Baalu’s remarks, he said, “Baalu said only time will tell. But I have answered the question.”

Stating that Alagiri’s criticism had upset the entire party, Baalu said, “It was a statement in bad taste. We consider it as a statement against our party chief (M K Stalin), so we did not attend their (Congress’s) meeting.”

Alagiri, on the other hand, sought to downplay the widening rift between the alliance partners. The DMK-led alliance had reduced the ruling AIADMK to just one Lok Sabha seat in Tamil Nadu this summer.

Alagiri told reporters in Chennai that the reason for his party not getting some seats vis-a-vis the recent civic polls was not due to the Dravidian party’s high command. It was owing to some functionaries at the local level, he said, adding, “we have to express our constraints. We do that and it is our duty.”
