Indo-France Aero Engine Co-Development Program

What core could they be talking about? Can the M88 core be pushed up to 125kN? As far as I know, the M88-4 ECO demonstrator did up to 90kN with a theoretical max of 105kN.

If not M88, then a new core?
As far as I know, M88 family can reach 10.5tons in the 90's (M88-4). With some improvements in materials maybe some more thrust now.
But M88-4 was only a paper project. And it is now a "old" core family.
With the Turenne 1 and Turenne 2 R&D efforts, a higher temperature can be reach.
I think a new core is on the agenda. Maybe a higher thrust range for SCAF and a lower one for India ?

why would they do it? wouldnt they lose future orders from IAF?
CAPEX to be spent on imports is limited to 32% right now. Which is slated to be reduced further.

In any case they(everyone) would lose the cash cow.

Better to get involved and take advantage of the potential market.

Apparently, GoI prefers France not only for the deal offered ( which incidentally RR also matched) or the fact that they're our strategic partner or that we'd be buying / already bought Rafales from them but because of our history with France.

In these uncertain times, France with it's track record of Independent strategic & foreign policy apart from Russia gained instead of UK which isn't seen to have much independence in this domain.

The history of post Pokhran sanctions still weigh heavily on the minds of our strategic planners where UK ceased all co operation in defense & other strategic sectors following the lead of the US.

France like UK & other nations are moving in the direction of electric propulsion as well as Variable Engine Cycle which in due course would render fixed speed Gas Turbine engines obsolete. Smart decision from SAFRAN / France. In our case it's bhagte bhoot ki langot sahi.

It's a jet that's not in competition with France.

AMCA may be ahead of the Rafale, but it would be viable for export long after Rafale production lines have closed. And FCAS will be a step up over the AMCA, so it's not in the same generation.

And this is not counting the primary factor, helping India become independent that will allow it to become another pole for an authentic multipolar world, so this way France also gets a supporter of equal standing to the US and China that could prevent unnecessary military complications across the world.

A secondary reason is France was much more viable than the UK, and less inclined to use it for blackmail, naturally because we will also be producing Rafales of our own by then. The follow-on option would be a very enticing bait.

The main reason is because it's 2022!!!

thank you.
(except last sentence i don’t understand 😀)

Manish K Jha: Talks are on with French entity Safran for the aeroengine. Do we get the full matrix of technology which will enable India to further design, develop and manufacture aeroengine?

Defence Secretary:
So, there is no agreement which has been concluded with anyone so far that I am aware of. Such discussions are going on but nothing has been concluded.

“The Royal Navy and British industry now stand ready to co-produce an indigenous Electric Propulsion capability in support of the Indian Navy. The UK is also working with India on strategic collaboration for Modern Fighter Aircraft and Jet Engine ...

Why do all reports keep mentioning "Safran-HAL Aircraft Engines" as a new entity? It exists from 2005 producing helicopter engines.

India is looking not only for 100 per transfer of technology for making aircraft engines to power its indigenous twin engine fighter but also designing and development of next generation high powered military and civilian engines for future fighter and transport platforms. Already Tata group has tied up with Airbus to manufacture C295 tactical transport aircraft in Vadodara in Gujarat. This line is going to be expanded into other civilian and military aircraft manufacturing in a joint venture with France.

Keep in mind that the reporter is unreliable.
