Indo-France Aero Engine Co-Development Program

As part of a ‘2030 Roadmap’, the UK and India have agreed to work closely to support India’s indigenous development of the Light Combat Aircraft Mark 2 (LCA Mk2).

The UK has already demonstrated its support by pre-approving an export licence “Permissions List” for combat engine technology transfer.

The two sides have committed to deepen defence cooperation as a key pillar of the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

In an exclusive interaction with Financial Express Online, top company officials said: “Rolls-Royce is keen to partner India for combat engine development with a unique co-creation model wherein the Intellectual Property (IP) for this critical technology will be created and owned in India. With technological know-how and know-why resting within the country, India could further explore opportunities in the global market.”

Looks like RRs up shit creek already , predicting the course the rest of your businesses & your benighted country will take thru the course of this decade , the next & all the way till the end of the century , eh Paddy .

Although the offer is enticing & RR has some pretty decent technology to offer their reputation comes in the way . The British are the worst of the lot . At least with the French you know they'd blackmail you for more money half way thru the project but they'd deliver what you want & with the Americans you already have past experience of their fickle mindedness but the Brits would not only take your money but also not deliver in true British fashion. Isn't it so , Paddy ? @BMD

Derivatives of 120 KN engine are expected to power all versions of the LCA during the MLU. So factually incorrect though technically correct reportage.
I would be happy with one base engine, which right now seems far off tbh. Derivatives is another matter. LCA airframe was chosen for 100kn engine & will be hard to switch from GE 414 imo , given 414 itself has uprated 110kn variant that will be easier to switch to & certify. Would they really switch just due to own ip engine if it happens?

That's the idea behind getting the IPR . To create a family of TFs & spin offs for Marine Gas Turbines , Locomotives , etc . Right now it seems far away & although this may sound like one of those stories RST spins out here , I've read about it from diverse sources , who're knowledgeable enough defence commentators to trust there's a great deal of logic behind those reports & this move by our aerospace establishment.

As posted in the defence industry thread, this is an interesting update. So it must be Amca Mk2 engine related. The sole condition of this is joint IPR i hope.

After GE Deal, India Looks At Co-development Of Next Generation Fighter Jet Engine

..An offer from Safran, sources said, has already come and it involves the full Transfer of Technology (TOT), a co-development offer and no restrictions on stopping any access to sensitive issues.

..The GE people are also very keen and the offer will arrive: They had said it would be after the 414 deal is signed. Now that it’s been done, “movement” is expected.

..RR is also serious and the British are keen on a deal and it would have come up if defence minister Rajnath Singh had gone to London. But India cancelled the visit at the last moment, looking at the protocol issues involved.

..The co-development would mean a “clear division of work,” between the DRDO and the foreign collaborator. This is going to be a learning process for both sides as issues like design involving the thrust to weight ratio and other issues, metallurgy and the manufacturing process will have to be discussed in detail.

This visit is from the Paris air show time btw, not today. Safran just showed it now. Read somewhere that GE offer is yet to be submitted.
