Israeli super radars set to give desi LCA fighter jet enhanced combat capability

Israeli firm ELTA is likely to shortly bag an order for a new set of AESA (Active Electronically Scanned Array) radars for an air force order of 83 LCA Mk 1A jets.

Sources said that advanced negotiations are now on to finalise the contract at the earliest for early delivery of the combat enhanced jets to the Indian Air Force.
 
HAL should choose Uttam radar, we won't see mk-1a before 2020 anyway. I don't think MoD will be promoting this.

The new ELTA radar was purpose designed for the LCA. The Uttam is some ways off and we shouldn't let an indigenous program hijack the LCA program because it will directly affect IAF's draw-down. Uttam will be part of the Mk2 anyway. The same with Kaveri. The main idea behind Mk1A is to induct the jet quickly, not chase after full indigenization.

Speed is the mantra for Mk1A.
Indigenization is the mantra for Mk2.

We have to finish the paper configuration of the Mk1A this year.

We have so many other indigenous programs that our homegrown tech can easily go there.

At present Uttam is being integrated on LCA for test flight so DRDO still have 2 yrs. Maybe production will be with Uttam and IOC with elta's (no FOC though).

Unfortunately, the configuration has to be decided before the aircraft goes into production. If we wait for 2 years, then the first LCA will be delivered only after 5 years.

If they have decided on the Israeli radar, then it's too late for the Mk1A. Any indigenous system will have to go in during MLUs in 15 years.

There is no hurry to start the order for 83 as the first 40 itself hasn't been completed. 31 are yet to be made. So, by the time these 31 will be made, it will be 2020. Hence UTTAM radar will be ready for next batch

Nope. It's Israeli.
I did not know that Israel makes TR module. I always thought that Israel just wrote the program while USA supplied with TR module

Why do you say that? When UTTAM radar is already ground tested and in flight trials, why would the 83 MK1A not get that?
Because its common sense. UTTAM is still in testing. It will take uncertain amount of time to make it production ready and integrate to LCA. ELM-2052 is very capable radar which is ready now. UTTAM was never indented for Mk1 anyway. The LCA is so late that part designed for advanced version is coinciding with the release timeline of original (kind of). That doesn't mean we delay LCA program further for the sake of calling it more indigenous.
