Bigger apps bundle resources (custom fonts, graphics, etc) based on requirements (like screen resolution of the device), such that they are downloaded at run time. That is the case for most games, this reduces the initial download size (apk size) for Android. That was what I had mentioned in my previous post. YouTube and Whatsapp are small apps in terms of app size, so it doesn't matter much. Irrespective of that, it is only possible to download resources that way and not compiled code. Hence after sometime it will stop working even if someone has it installed on device now, pubg that is.
You & @Saaho are saying exactly same thing that we don't have the military or economic heft to pull it off.
Its not a question of will, no one can fault this Govt. on that count - its about sheer absence of capability.
We are not there yet, but will be closer in 2023. Right ?

According to Saaho, we are already as rich as China (India is 2.5 times poorer) and the US (India is merely 2 times poorer as per him).
However, if we want to challenge the US, then our per capita income has to rise to upper middle class or near developed level. Or develop military capability that's considered overwhelming, or at least a bother, like the example with the Russians and SWIFT. It's easy for the US to go against a $3T economy, but very difficult against a $10T economy.
We have an economy that is 1/2.5 times of China and 1/2 of USA in PPP terms. "Rich" is a stupid invention of yours which basically means nothing.
Those are "inplace" updates but they don't cover everything. Any change in native code will require update from playstore. Thats the general idea, a lot of games do not support inplace updgrade.

Also, world does not work in "big bang" approach that you are suggesting. For instance, in per capita sense, China is still 1/5th the size of USA BUT in terms of value of goods and services procurable for military use, China is FAR ahead of USA.
Lastly, we were talking about attacking Pakistan. Pakistan is not exactly US or China -- even if you believe it. US can easily give us support for fighting Pakistan if we give them something of value, a defence deal of sorts, access to market, especially when US perceives Pakistan as a pawn of China.

So India has around 175 m installs , worlds largest, from around 700 m total worldwide. With total revenues of approximately 250 m usd per month , they lose roughly one fourth revenue. Not earth shattering but the squeeze is on.
Like I said if India really wants to damage chiba, stop imports of their mobile sets. But our pharmaceutical industry has to be prepared before that.

I completely agree, except the VPN part.
It's damn difficult if not impossible to get the VPNs operating in India to block those servers/web sites/web apps, generally speaking, for one it is upto the VPN providers. Now if GoI follows China's approach that any VPN that doesn't comply will be banned from operating in India, then it is a different story.
In short, something in line with the great firewall of China that blocks all the non compliant VPNs.
But this will also trigger an invasive intent and disregard for user privacy. Users of VPNs will not be able to the trust the providers as they have to be hand in glove with the government - so, data privacy, no way.
That's not how GoI would want this to work and play out imo.

In addition to what you said about servers, Indian Government will ask indian ISPs to block internet access to these apps after that it won’t matter whether android users have downloaded APKs bypassing play store, because they won’t be able to access it even if one uses VPN the speed will be very slow to play Game!
Well, my bigger discussion with @randomradio was on the same lines.
I believe it is not the "smaller" economy and "poorness" that is holding back our military options and possible engagements, it is the pathetic decision making at south block and even more pathetic implementation in civilian and some military circles that is the root of our pathetic situation in defence readiness (like buying emergency equipment RIGHT at the moment of conflict).
I think we have enough military power and diplomatic capital to conduct wars in Pakistan and most likely win them, capturing critical territory and positions. What we do not have is a leadership which can hone those abilities into a real war fighting machine (in terms of diplomatic, military and civilian components).
The entire delusion that we need to be at the stage of US and China combined to even tackle likes of Pakistan according to our wishes is a pathetic excuse to cover the posteriors of our pathetic beaurocrats and political leadership.
Its okay. Let the VPNs be. Let us see how many folks configure VPNs. It makes things harder and reduces casual gaming on that app. Remember, its not every pubg player we need to target, it is the bulk. So what if some of them escape. There are paid VPN solution that can literally show that the phone is in USA but there is not need to target them.
If it makes things harder for most of casual gamers, then the battle is almost won. If it makes gaming experience bad (due to latency and cumbersome connection procedure or changing app store process, then the battle is already won.
I have myself played Pubg/Cod over vpn.
Unless, you are playing in a competitive way, the performance is quite decent. Moreover, the games suffer more from high ping than from low speeds. With a decent VPN, it is doable. But due to the reasons stated above, the game will stop working either way after sometime.
