From these positions, IA troops can keep a watch on every surrounding path of the Chinese armour and posts, with eyes on the opposite side of the F-4 area of Pangong Tso. It's a chakravyuh which has surrounded their posts. There's no running away.

Sadly, you missed the point completely. Although I agree with everything you said, but US would never allow any country to reach even half of its conventional might. PLAN is already bigger than USN in terms of warships. Chinese are rapidly modernising their air force and land force. So yes there is a real chance of China overtaking the conventional capabilities of US in coming decades. If you think US would wait for it, then you are wrong.
I agree that conventional deterrence has played an important role in preventing war b/w major powers, but if you analyse the present Geo-Political situation it doesn't exists. The amount of Nations ganged up against China and the sum total of their conventional might far surpasses what Bejeing has to offer. It is coupled with the firm belief that co-existence with China is not possible. The range of conflicts of interests are as long as it could be. And yes there is US factor too. Do you think US would let go this golden chance of scuttling it's only rival that could challenge it's global supremacy??? IMO answer is a big NO.

Our entire military buildup in the 70s and 80s fizzled out upon the realisation that the superpowers won't let us do anything on our own. We used to spend 35-40% of our spending on defence at the time. China also learnt it the hard way, which is why they went quiet for all these decades. The very reason why their last war was only in 1979, thereby leaving unfinished business unfinished. They quietly built up their economy and military without stepping on too many toes, we are doing the same. Now that they can challenge the superpowers, they are now rearing their ugly heads again. Hence the concentration camps in Xinjiang, the new Hong Kong law, the aggression towards Taiwan/Japan and taking over the SCS, and finally making long term committment towards the Hanisation of Tibet and challenging India. Next up is Russia, and ultimately the US.
What we did since the 70s is build up a massive armed forces by spending over 35% of our spending on defence. And then, even with a gradually lowered defence spending, we have still maintained such a large force since economic growth compensated for the difference. So what we have today is enough to take out Pakistan and manage credible defence against China.
Now the expectation is by 2022-23, private industry would recover from its bad financial decisions under the UPA and begin contributing to India's growth again in the form of investments, which will then free up govt resources towards other avenues, including defence. I have no clue how COVID's gonna spoil it though. Regardless the defence budget requires significant growth from that point onwards since, as we transition from a lower middle income to a higher middle income economy, we are going to start facing massive pressure in order to curtail our growth in certain sectors, and need a large security budget in order to fight back, both internal and external. It's not a fluke that China's internal security budget is much bigger than the external budget.
Not true. Due to America's various pacts with Russia, the Americans have failed to match up with Chinese buildup in some areas, especially long range missiles and BMD. Not to mention, the USN's shipbuilding has not kept up enough to counter the Chinese, so the Chinese are expected to achieve regional parity with the USN over the coming decade.

And yet we captured Siachen in 80s. Go a bit back, we actually pushed Portugal from India with entire europe and USA yelling at us. We annexed Sikkim. Won skirmishes with China in 67 who had support of USSR. All this superpower "won't let us do it" is a super excuse.
BTW, what is so special about 70s or 80s?
No, China captured our territory and secured Tibet. It caputred Tibet and is keeping it ever since. Where are superpowers then?
Have you forgotten China's claim in south china sea and its aggressive patrolling and exploration of the area? Or China's claim on vietnam's water? Or constant nibbling of Indian territory? Those are not new. China has done it in one form or other for very long time. No super power was consulted.
The only thing that it refrains from is attacking Taiwan because that will be a direct confrontation with America.
