Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning and F-22 'Raptor' : News & Discussion

Lets see here....

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has officially denied reports that it has requested a classified briefing by U.S. defense contractor Lockheed Martin on the capabilities of its fifth-generation stealth multi-role F-35A Joint Strike Fighter Lightning II, the aircraft’s conventional takeoff and landing version.

“We have not officially asked for a briefing on the F-35 nor has any request been made to the Americans,” the commanding officer of the IAF, Air Chief Marshal Birender Sing Dhanoa, told The Indian Express last week. Indian media reports emerged in February that the IAF is considering the F-35A to fill a requirement for up to 126 fighter jets as a deal for 126 French-made Dassault Rafale multirole fighter aircraft was abandoned.
India Denies Interest in F-35 Joint Strike Fighter – The Diplomat

He denies the request ever took place meaning NO F-35 BRIEFING... What's so hard to understand?
That means you were lying when you said that India made a formal request in 2018 and was denied by DOD or whatever agency responsible. Read your post 1620

(couhg!) Ahem. Canada is a member of Nato.
Are you really an American ?
From NATO website
“It is not part of NATO, but is a joint contribution to Allied security. ... Since 1949, Canada has maintained a permanent representation at NATO Headquarters in Europe, following NATO as its headquarters moved from the United Kingdom to France, and from France to Belgium.”

Reason given is “Canadian leaders grew disillusioned with the NATO alliance, and began to reduce Canada's commitment. In 1969 then Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau withdrew half of Canada's forces in Europe, even as many leftist intellectuals and peace activists called for a complete withdrawal from NATO.”

Lol. You said were not even offered the F-35. But I proved that we were. And it was the IAF who didn't show any interest in it. If we do not show interest, then why would the US give us a classified briefing?
“General Bipin Rawat, India’s chief of defence staff, says that the technology has never been offered by the U.S. to India. Indian Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat on Thursday scotched a longstanding rumor about India’s possible acquisition of American F-35 fighter jets, as he told a foreign policy conference that Washington had never offered New Delhi the multirole combat aircraft,” the ELE Times report states.

Lockheed Martin denies offering India fifth-generation F-35 fighter

Lockheed Martin, the US aerospace giant, rebutted a report that was widely published in the Indian media, that it had offered the state-of-the-art F-35 Lightning II fighter to the country. The F-35, a fifth-generation fighter, that is only now entering service in significant numbers, is superior to the F-16 Block 70 fighter that Lockheed Martin is offering India in its proposed purchase of an estimated 100 single-engine fighters.

It's always MAY offer or THEY'D LIKE to offer, WILLING to offer or INTERESTED in selling but US has never OFFICIALLY offered the F-35 to India. Almost offering doesn't correlate to classified briefing.

-Canada was a founding member of the Alliance and has remained as a member since its inception. NATO is a major contributor to international peace and security and is the cornerstone of Canadian security and defence policy.

Canada’s priority for NATO is to ensure the Alliance remains modern, flexible, agile and able to face current and future threats. This goal drives all of Canada’s efforts on NATO transformation, reform and partnerships with non-NATO countries.

The Canadian Armed Forces are among the most engaged, agile, deployable and responsive armed forces within NATO, and Canada is proud to have contributed to every NATO operation since the founding of the Alliance more than seven decades ago. Canada's participation in NATO operations around the world exemplifies our commitment to the Alliance.

NATO is an active and leading contributor to peace and security on the international stage. It promotes democratic values and is committed to the peaceful resolution of disputes. However, if diplomatic efforts fail, it has the military capacity needed to undertake crisis-management operations, alone or in cooperation with other countries and international organizations.

Not a classified briefing. What part of that don't you understand? Classified needs DOD and State Department approval which has not been approved yet. When that happens especially a non ally nation it becomes a big deal. Notice your own article mentions "classified briefing" and then "briefing" for IAF an IN?
The article certainly doesn't elaborate on whether the briefing IN received was classified or not . I imagine it had to be so otherwise what else is there to be gained from an ordinary briefing ?

If we wanted we could buy the f-35 but it's still an incomplete aircraft with lot of issues. IAF usually buys mature fighters. And after the flanker drama IAF will wait until the f-35 has fixed all its issues.
The only problem really is the s-400. But we could very well pick up some f-35b for our Navy with ease but then you will have dod representatives constantly surveilling. F-35 honestly has too many cons for us..
No,it's not been offered officially. Or else uncle Sam could have bring it to mmrca, mmrca2 competition.

Like cost and what challenges pros and cons in operating the F-35 especially at that early stage of the F-35's life when it wasn't IOC yet.

What kind of logic is that ?
More nonNATO countries operating/inducting F35 then NATO members . Japan, Switzerland, Finland, Australia, Canada etc are all non NATO countries
Canada is NATO and all the others are completely NATO-aligned with Australia being part of the 5 eyes, which is actually an even tighter-knit group than NATO.
Twin engine jets are extremely important since they can suffer more battle damage than single engine jets.
Too many movies. With missiles, you're either undamaged or dead mostly, the 0.01% of cases falling between these two are negligible.

US elevates India’s trade status to NATO-level ally, move to boost access to defence tech

What the Recently Concluded US-India COMCASA Means

Explained: BECA, and the importance of 3 foundational pacts of India-US defence cooperation

For all the hullabaloo you've been creating here, have a look at the 4 foundational agreements India & the US has signed. In fact India is one of the few if not only non alliance member to enjoy security clearances on par with any alliance member.

Even if Canada is in NATO , that doesn’t changes anything. More Non NATO countries are buying F35 than NATO members.
Finally given up this ridiculous claim good for you.

You mean nations that are very close military allies where we have bases and nations that fly US fighters? Well duh.

You can change the goal post as much as you want. It’s your problem.
I just showed you that NATO membership is not necessary.

No shame in self correction.

So does Turkey and lots of other countries around the globe.
And as said by someone here , you and BMD think (or not) like brothers. You both know that what you said was totally false but that doesn’t deter you from uselessly argue on the same line

All of that has been recent, understand that? The IN "briefing" took place 10+ years ago and it wasn't the classified one. Maybe now if India were to ask for a classified briefing, depending on how serious they are and signing clauses, they'd get THEE classified briefing... maybe.

So what have you Indians learned thanks to me..?

1. US has not officially offered the F-35 to India.
2. India/IAF/IN has not received F-35 classified briefing.
3. Canada is a member of NATO.
:)

The first of the foundational agreements was signed way back in 2012 IIRC. This was preceded by the 123 Nuclear Agreement between India & the US which thereby allowed India a special waiver by the NSG. All this was sealed by 2008.

Are you arguing that India getting a waiver from the NSG & subsequent membership of the Australia Group, the MTCR & the Wassenaar Agreement - ALL ENABLED BY THE US is somehow less critical than India getting a briefing classified or otherwise on your gold plated sorry make that platinum plated F-35?

1. Made no such claim.
2. India media made the claim and it was picked up by some in western media. Shame on western media for believing anything that comes out of Indian media.
-The Indian Air Force (IAF) is formally requesting a classified briefing by U.S. defense contractor Lockheed Martin on the capabilities of its fifth-generation stealth multirole F-35A Joint Strike Fighter Lightning II, the aircraft’s conventional takeoff and landing version, according to Indian media reports.

3. IAF air chief said no such request ever happened which also makes you Indians liars since many of you here claim India has gotten F-35 classified briefing.

Maybe it was BMD then, I don’t remember exactly . You both have very similar line of arguments anyway.

There is a clear reason for that. It's that only the Americans have the right to assemble f35. No other partner assembles f35. Making components is one thing in offsets. Like we are doing with the Rafale. Assembling them becomes a different game.
Partners can only buy the f35 off the shelf. Nothing else. The only one to get the best deal was Israel with the Adir. Heck the U.K got scammed into buying f35..
