The P-8I has a radar in the nose and the aft, and both have been configured to perform air search. This is specific to only our version and gives the P-8I 360 deg radar capability.
The aft radar's instrumented range is 475+Km, likely against ships, and the nose radar is even higher.
It's not a replacement for a dedicated AWACS, but it's good enough considering our circumstances. It has a lot of other features that may be much more important because any Sino-India war is going to be fought on land.
Last time we read about 9 -1 mirage got upgraded at the time of aero India feb 2019..

As if the whole world is conspiring for our victory in the. Man nobody is gonna spare their costly items to india during war, we will be our own. It is ridiculous to expect some one else to give aid us during war so that we can lavishly waste time during peace time.
Andvwhen comes to awacs, we were terribly short legged, for your kind information p8I is not an awacs.

And afaik, p8I was used as j-star type role not as an awacs. All radar bearing aircrafts are not awacs.
We need to match our own projections. If we just have those, we are capable of offensive operations against PLA in a 2 front war.
The options of attacking the other AC was bombing raids only then.
Now we have cheaper alternatives available.
We need to place Brahmos Regiment in A&N , along with MRSAM and Akash SAM squadrons for Air Defence. 450km Brahmos can take out targets coming out from the straits into IOR.
Some of the passages are shallow where even submarines need to surface to enter the IOR, therefore more P8Is.
And finally SSN component with enough weaponary.
I didn't tell that ac is the only option to deal ac, what i said is that ac can be used for offensive action against another ac.
And do Brahmos able get a lock on an aircraft carrier? I doubt. Aircraft carriers are generally have most powerful EW suit, it can easily blind brahmos. We need missiles like NSM of norway or the upcoming LRSAM of USA to deal with ac or other top end destroyers in under the umbrella of intense EW. @vstol Jockey am i right?
Also we need three or four awacs and few p8I to be stationed at A&N along with a squadron of Brahmos capable MKI. It will be a good deterrence against chinese advancement.
